Hey Tom, I fished with ya and BSed with ya enough to know that you know a bit about fishin’ yer own self. At least you seem to know which end of the pole to hold when you cast. Cain’t say the same for some of the newbies and wannabees.

As my old buddy Dandy Don Meredith used to say “If ya can do it, it ain’t braggin”. Unfortunately, a lot of fishermen seem to have the attitude that even if you can’t do it, brag about it anyway. A lot of that goin’ around.
Fishing in swimming pools? Well, maybe if I could find a well-stocked one like this.
I had to offset the steering handle on mine due to the short distance between my seat back and the motor. No way even limbered up to reach and drive effectively. I kick about 90% when fishing and maneuvering about, and use the motor to get from one general area to another. Except for this trip where the water was so cold. The feet needed to see the sun a bit to warm back up.
I like the spinning the motor around 180 idea as it would give the higher speed when going backwards. I don’t know yet what the prop to fin clearance will be with it set up that way as my boat is fairly short. I’ll have to check it out. The motor has a reverse, but it’s considerably slower than the forward positions top speed, and when using fins to steer, the drag can make quite a bit of difference.
I had a motor on my 6’ Apline. Plenty clearance. Now that was a short boat[;)] That boat we took the head off the motor and extended the wiring. Put the head in the rod holder hole
With my Minn Kota 30’s we took the head off. Added ribbon wire. Took the rheostat out of the handle and mounted it in a small metal box from Radio Shack. Put a knob on it and I now had control right next to me.
You’ve obviously been at the Pontoon thing for quite some time. I’ve had mine for some 12 years or so, and have just started to really get some good use out of it thanks to Pat. Still working out the bugs and trying to make it user friendly. Every bit of veteran advice and sharing of ideas is greatly appreciated.
Glad ya found a few. Why aint ya catchin them toothy bass yet? As you know we made a quick trip out to Pelican Bay lookin for a few whities to play with. Found a bunch of little guys. Kept about 17 of the 10-11 inchers and turned a bunch of the dinks back to get bigger. Probably caught 60-70 fish in a couple hours but a lot of little guys. Didnt take any pics. Just anothe bunch of whities. As you noted some of the bigge ones had some of the younger family member in their stomach and were a bit fatter than the smaller guys.
I was glad to hear that you guys got enough of the larger whities for a good meal. I had told Donna that the fish were orienting to the ramps inside harbors…even in shallower water. Also glad to hear that you guys got some venison.
I am pretty sure I FOUND some toothy critters last Thursday. But finding them is never a guarantee of catching them. They were very inactive in the suddenly chilled water after the cold front blew through a couple of days earlier. When I saw them on sonar they were so cold they could barely roll over and extend their middle fins.
Heard that there were a few being caught just in front of the cold blast. But daytime temps were getting up toward 70 for a few days and the fish loved it. Not when they dropped the bottom out of the thermometer though.
