Chesterfield Ice ????

trolling a little?

Oh just the fanatic responses that load up lakes with lurkers who follow these boards.

Hows the snow up there? We have two new feet in Provo.

snow up north is nasty in the highcountry but not to shabby in the valley. i have started to figure out that when it comes to ice fishing it doesnt matter what you post on the site. if it is hot people will find out and they will be there.

well with these up coming snow storms there are going to be less people making it in to the places I go I won’t name the place for the 13’’ perch or bigger due to it is already under preasure!! However unless you have a snow machine or your ready to hoof it in to the spot with perch you will never get in or out during this time of year.. And as for poor chesterfield it is a hot spot regardless of the lurkness monsters.. Because of the ease of access to that place.. Even thoe I scene a few people from utah stuck when I went last the snow there is deep too deep for a car and too deep for most trucks and suvs…and another thing about chesterfield you can only keep 2 fish out of it and the rate that they stock it during warm weather is insane.and over half of it you can’t fish from the bank because it is on the reservation.. And it is a pretty hefty fine if your caught on the reservation side and if your caught with more that 2 fish ..

I’m with ya goddess, I hope there is some left for the fly rods!!!

I noticed along time ago, this forum is all about Hot Spotting and there really is no way to stop it…it is the nature of the beast (or forum as it were)

All I ask is that respect is shown to others and the fish. If you are not going to keep it, treat it with TLC. What happens when you put wet hands on ice? That is what is happening to the fish…common sense.

If fish are handled correctly, many can enjoy the same fish.

I guess that is what gets me the most. The gill gaffing, holding them out of the water too long, dropping them on the ice, hooking them too deep, handling them with gloves/towel, dry hands…etc.

I got no problem with how one fishes.

Above all, get out and fish when you can, enjoy yourself, and be safe to all.

Whinners…WHAAAA !!!..I have not seen the posts in years past make a bit of difference in the pressure during ice season, especially in the far off reserviors…but I have definitely seen it during fair weather though. Either your fishing or you are not…I did the miles in the dark to get there, hung out on the ice alll day and came home in the dark…I’ll post whatever I want. Sour grapes to you guys who can’t handle the cold. :sunglasses:

[;)] I can’t agree more…my fish are only on the ice long enough to get the hook out. My camera is set up and waiting. I only take a picture if they are not thrashing because of the damage they will do to themselves. Otherwise it is back in the hole as quickly as possible, unless it is going home for dinner or lunch the next day. [sly]

I’ve fish it since it was drain and it has improved every so far. No more 50 plus days but, the quality is improving every year. There as so many puddles ( reservior) with almost the same quality. If this is the only HOTSPOT in southern Idaho I’am more then fine with that. Even a few that are still toonable[;)].

Oh no, this is but one of thousands. It is on all boards and all states. I can name several Idaho Res. that are very small and cannot take the pressure they receive from these Hot Spotting, same with Utah.

And like I said, it isn’t even the Hot Spotting to me as much as miss handling.

This forum is full of “who, what, where and how” along with, if you have the money, a few PFD’s to help getterdone.:sunglasses:

hahaha Joni I laughed at that last little bit!

But on a serious note you are right. I have stopped using most forums as of late because of it.

But, Everet, you know you can take a peek at anytime and get some info and that is what BFT is about.

There is a little of something for everyone, and for the most part, a good thing.

yeah there are lotd of hot spots in south east idaho but chesterfeild is an exception because it is a well known res as it is extreamly easy to access.. And it is one of the few that are on the map with it’s name.. I can think of a few places that produce just as big and just as many fish as chesterfeild but they will remain un named as I like being one of the few people out there when I go.. Like one place it is pretty popular but no one ever catches the trout because there stuck on what else is in there and let me tell you the trout in there are huge as in it isn’t uncommon to bring out a 25 plus inch trout from it you just need to target them… South east idaho has over 20 different reservoirs closer to 40 or 50 and alot of them have trout ..

Yes and no, it wasn’t very well known just five years ago and it isn’t all that easy to get to.
It is much more popular these days due to the pictures and the reports that are given here on a regular basis.
Search up the word Chesterfield, you will see, it is a some what recent topic.

I have known about chesterfeild my whole life, mainly due to growing up in the area.
Did a search on chesterfeild and got allot of stuff about the town not the reservoir, I think they are trying to entice tourism into the area. One of the articles I read said there was Black crappie, chinook salmon, cutthroat trout, LMB, SMB, sockeye salmon, northern Pike, and yellow perch. I have never heard of a large majority of those fish being in there, This was on one of the tourist sites of things to do in the area.
And yes it was talking about this particular chesterfeild. I wouldn’t say it is so much this site as to the popularity of the water, It has been a popular reservoir for as long as I can remember. It may have just become popular on this site within the past few years but that doesn’t mean people didn’t already know about it. Alot of people grew up fishing it and brought there friends who brought their friends and so forth, and it is pretty easy to find and access.

Happy Holidays,
Does it really matter that people are posting pics and fishing how they want? Chesterfield has and never will be a secret. If you can use a computer, you sure can figure out how the fishing is at chesterfield or anywhere else for that matter. Here is an idea talk to a local. It has worked for me and still does. I for one do not care how people fish. As long as there having fun. Fishing is fishing. If you do not like ice fisherman stop reading there post. I have lived in Utah when I was younger and this is the very reason we moved to Idaho. And have never looked back. Go fish and lets not force our fishing believes on to anyone. The very thing you hate. You try to push onto other people. Clean up your back yard, before you start on mine. If you want bigger fish at chesterfield pay the Native Americans and they will let you fish there waters.

Don’t know what you were reading but it nothing to do with my post. I never said I had any problem with how people fish, especially ice.
My back yard is very clean by the way.

I was born and raised Idaho.

With that said, I was more towards Boise. I did not know about Chesterfield till I read “THIS” site.
When I said to search, I meant just BFT search. It is a newer subject here and growing fast. And yes I am sure there are other forums out there.
I visit allot of different forums, but as I mentioned before, non quite as will to do everything short of putting the fish on your hook as BFT.
Not bad mouthing any one or thing…just the way it is.

Please “read” my post before you start slapping labels on me.

I am not forcing anything, never have, never will, where the heck did you read that?

If you feel better venting your beliefs, then knock yourself out, but don’t put words in my post that aren’t, there thank you.

Idaho, don’t go getting you shorts in a knot. :astonished:  No one was pushing anything that I could see. It is just a discussion. That is what forums do.

The comment was polite and was not personally meant to anyone individual. Ice fishing is ok and so is keeping the fish, BUT if any of you are releasing the fish PLEASE don’t lay them on the ice. If you care about the fish and the fishery then handle your fish you are releasing so that they have the best chance to survive.

To me it is kind of like picking up a cupcake, scrunching it, then putting it back for someone else to eat. Sure you put the cupcake back, but it didn’t survive very well. Makes you cringe a little, and maybe you try and help everyone learn a bit more on cupcake handling!:laughing::laughing:

Then the discussion turned a bit, but was still polite, with comments on whether or not posting on BFT increased fishing pressure on some of these areas. I don’t think that personal attacks need to be involved. I think it is ok to discuss the issues. It is still just a discussion, so lets keep it that way.

The way I see it is there are two ways to release a fish when ice fishing . Lay it on the ice and remove the hook as gently as posiable or man handle them in the air , trying not to touch the gills and wrestle the hook out ..Curt G.

but really as far as the whole hotspotting thing is concerned. what i dont understand is how some people feel like they have more right to the water than someone who reads a post and decided to go there? this information should be a give and take… if yer not willing to give a little then why are you taking the info others put out there? everyone does it so dont bs yourself. we all have the right to what the outdoors has to offer. true maybe some of us work a little harder to figure it out. and if you dont want to help others enjoy the waters you have put the work into. maybe you should just keep it to yourself. and not take any of the info others offer…its a morality issue, i know i will never win this battle but people shouldnt get something for nothing and nothing for something… i probably havent made any freinds with this post but it is what it is. BTW flygoddess thanks for the info about handling fish. im kind of embarassed to admit i didnt really think it was a big deal as long as they swam away. ive learned alot from you and a few others on here and i will definitly be passing the wisdom on.
