true… I say people with a second pole license should receive a discount towards their next fishing license. show the 2nd pole license and knock off a few bucks. not a big deal for me, just be kinda nice for the guys who bought one.
Flygoddess, it couldn’t have taken effect in January because it still had to go to the Utah Legislature for approval. The Legislature met from January to March of this year. And once this change was passed, the elimination of the second-pole permit was slated to go into effect on July 1.
Oh that was clear from the first of the year. I understand that. But to be fair to everyone involved, waiting till January 2015 made more sense.
What’s done is done. I am not going to raise a stink over $8. Or in my house $16.
Now, I bring up the price for retired. Can’t we do better?
This is an issue because of the year round fishing license. If all licenses expired on the same date like they used to, [last day of the year] it would not have been an issue at all.
I have already purchased a two pole permit and I knew that the change would be coming in July. I wasn’t concerned about that. I used my two pole permit for ice fishing. I didn’t want to wait till July. It was my choice. Not a big deal.
Why not make it effective immediately. Anyone who has a 2nd pole permit that expires between now and the 1st of July faces a conundrum. How many 2nd pole permits do you think the UDWR will sell between now and then?

That is a good point. Even a modest 100 people is $1500. right now.
Its always about the $ I still dont understand why you cant fish with 5 poles. Youre bag limit is still the same. Are they worried someone is going to catch all the fish. Whats the rule on set lines?
Exactly! Hey why not make those “extra pole” permits just that. In July when everyone gets two, make that pre bought extra pole permit just that…#3 ![]()
AmyC,
Is the price of a new license going to increase on July 1st when this takes effect? An instate license is the biggest bargain in fishing expenses. I’m not complaining if it does, just curious if the price goes up and to what amount?
That will depend, riverdog.
For people like me, it will actually be lower than last year. I buy a fishing permit for $26.00 and a second pole permit for an additional $ 15.00.
When I renew in December I will pay I think $34.00 for a license that includes the second pole permit.
For someone that only purchases a regular fishing license, the old price is $26.00 and after July first, it will go up to $34.00. In this case there will be an $8.00 increase.
I’m sure there will be a lot of people that will be upset that the license fee is going up but we have to remember that it has been a long time sense the last increase.
I also consider that the gas alone for one trip to Strawberry of the Green River will cost me over $50.00.
The cost for a yearly fishing license is a very good value for what I get out of it.
DKStroutfitter is correct. The fees are going up in some instances and going down — or completely away (i.e., two-pole permit fee) — in others. The resident fee for a 365-day fishing license will increase to $34 for those who are 18-64. There will be discounted licenses for youth (14-17), seniors (65 and older) and disabled veterans. We will also be offering multi-year licenses (for up to five years) at a slight discount. I don’t have all the new amounts on hand here at home, but I can check on them when I get back into the office on Monday. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Hey Amy how will this effect lifetime license holders? Will we be able to use a second pole after July 1 even though we won’t pay additional fees? I have always bought a second pole permit in the past so I hope I still get that option. Thanks J

I think someone is going to come out smelling like a rose…![]()
I feel the same way about waterfowl hunting and using live decoys: who cares how you get your birds as long as you dont shoot over your limit!
That might be better than the skunk I usually smell like this spring. J
They already upped our hook per line limit to 3 per.
Last I’d heard a setline permit (separate from a 2nd pole permit) was $15. Hadn’t heard that was rolling in with the 2nd pole allowance. Believe you can have 8 hooks on a setline. But you have to be nearby. Ever try one?
Missing out on the fun, more than a jawjacker IMHO.
Haven’t read back through this thread - maybe it’s been answered - but if you have a 2nd pole permit, when the rule changes, can you use three poles?
Like you said I’m not going to make a big stink about it but yea I always get the second pole permit just in case and hardly end up using second pole 90 percent of the time. Already got mine for 15 bucks in Dec. It’s not fair that in july people who didn’t pay will get to use it, but then again the world is never fair LOL.

No.

It isn’t rolling in the set line permit.
A setline permit is a 365-day permit, but you must also have an unexpired one-day, seven-day or 365-day Utah fishing or combination license in order to use it (a setline permit is not valid unless it’s accompanied by a valid fishing or combination license).
• A setline may not contain more than 15
hooks.

Knowing this was GOING to happen the first of the year, I wonder why they couldn’t have cut the price of that second pole permit in half.
One more time, what is done is done…
It wasn’t official until the end of the legislative session. April? Once it was officially going in to effect they should have just amended the proclamation and eliminated the second pole permit.
I renewed in February, and I knew it would probably only be necessary for 5 months.
