They are building less than 2 blocks south of Sporstmans Warehouse . How stupid is this . Hopefully this will make them more competive , but I doubt it . I like looking at the more expensive items and then finding the best deal I can on the web.
I agree with Curt. Ordered lots of stuff through Cabelas online until they moved into Boise, they then started charging me sales tax. Switched to Bass Pro shops and others for my specialty online orders.
Those who give me the best deals, get my repeat business.

And don’t forget, April 15th we are supposed to report any purchases that we didn’t pay tax on, and subsequently pay the said “tax due”.
Sooner or later Uncle Sam will start using our card information to track purchases that need to be taxed. That’ll reduce us to using cash if we don’t want to pay the tax that we “should” be paying.
Cabelas is decent, but Scheels, for fishing tackle, blows them away. Either one beats that joke-of-a- store “Sportsman’s Warehouse”. If you want help in that store, you need to wave your wallet! Even when they hold a “sale” it’s no real discount. I live less than a mile from the Midvale store and rarely walk in.
I have only been in Scheels once and was not impressed . I guess I better give them a second chance . Same with Bass Pro Shop in Vegas . There 3 hours and only spent $ 40.00 .
Scheels rod selection is unbelievable. They have their own brand, like Cabelas, but in my opinion much better available quality. Scheels brand rods range from $19.99 to $189.99 and on any of those rods if you break or damage them IN ANY WAY they simply hand you an identical replacement, free. They have some very nice rods in their selection.
On another note, their flygear is on the high side, but I hear is getting better. I would choose Cabelas for that end. Unless of course it’s tying gear, then Fishtech rules.

I agree 100%. The thing about Scheels is when it first open I was not impressed. I was in the Fly Fishing, the boat, the Archery, and Bike areas. In all those areas, the manager came up to talk. They asked what I thought would be great to have and actually took notes. Not just me, but a lot of people, so they cared. Cabela’s their hands are tied. They can only carry what corp tells them. They can special order individual orders, but not stock the store.
Bass Pro in Vegas blew me away. What a wonderful store however the Fly Fishing lacked big time but not a surprise. They aren’t know for fly fishing.
Sportsman’s was my favorite store for years, but as I said earlier, since the buy out, the Fly Fishing has shrunk big time and cloths got very expensive.
Byron and Micky and Nate are wonderful guys as I am sure the rest of the fish tech crew are. Prices high, but you need it, they got it.

Hey, one stop shopping as far as I’m concerned. The closer the better for those of us who will travel there. As far as off the path, the entire 17th Street major Idaho Falls mall thing is ridiculous, but the people drive out there because its the only game in town. Now to have another major retailer show up only makes sense (if such can be made). I will shop Cabela’s when I need to as I do Sportsman’s, but Jimmy’s All Season Angler will still be my fly shop of choice.
A friend of mine told me the other day that the Cabela’s in Lehi is getting their butts chewed by corporate. They are losing a lot of business to Sportsman and Sheels because they never carry what you need. They always tell you that you can order it from their catalog. I don’t have to go in the store to figure that out!! What they need is a fish manager that pays attention to what’s hot and then makes sure it’s in the store so it goes out the door. It’s pretty much that simple. I still would like to see a Bass Pro Shop open in the area.

Where did you get this information from? A couple of ago someone I talked to a lot behind the fishing counter at the Boise store got promoted to department manager. I talked to him about some some jigs the store carried, but not in the sizes or colors I wanted. He said he would take care of it, and lo and behold several weeks later they were on the shelves. Unless this is a fairly recent development, store management does have some leeway on what they keep in stock.

This was an item they DID carry, just a size thing, simple fix. But if you found a Lure they do not carry even if it is a big label name, and they would not be able to carry it. It must go through corporate. If one store carries it, it must be available to all the stores.
