🕶\*\*Interesting novelty, but WHY? You can buy a serviceable ice rod for less than the price of 2 gallons of gas. \*\*

* * *

**Anybody that is too cheap or too broke to afford a decent ice rod shouldn’t be ice fishing anyway. By the time you invest in all the other stuff you need for an ice trip…and fill up the gas tank…an ice rod is the least of your expenses.**

**Always interesting to see the things people come up with, thinking they are really helping somebody. Creative but impractical.**

Ice rods can be cheap. But if you have old broken tips of rods and handles lying around there is nothing wrong with making one out of them.

🕶 **I build all of my own rods…including ice rods. I gotta admit that a couple of my favorites were built from the salvaged tips of rods that others broke and just left laying on the bank.**

**I also gotta admit that I have put a lot of money into fancy blanks and hardware and have not really liked the end result. I have a few pricey ice rods that don’t get much use. They look purty but just don’t have the right feel.**

Just an Idea but I was dropping off some stuff at the DI and seen a huge assortment of regular fishing rods, couldn’t you cut them down to size and glue the tip section back together ???

yep, you just cut the rod off right at the handle, then cut the rod tip section for the lenth and the action you want. give your self about 6 to 8in. longer to slide into the handle section. you can use masking tape the fill the gap then use a good epoxy. one problem doing this is, that the handle is too big for the rod. if you have the right tools you can cut the handle down and make a better fit.
more then likley you would also have to reposition the guides to get a good curve bend. good luck with it. later chuck
