You guys are making me jealous. If I had more know-how and ice-fishing equipment I’d join in the fun but, alas, I have no clue how deep, where, or when (can’t really do it when I’m at work though) to fish on the ice. Great picks!

hey DDR, i’ll see what i can find on the net , but try reading thru the ice fishing archives for a start . it will make you familiar with some of the techniques involved with it .
i’m not sure what we have in the articals section but it might be worth a look as well .
now that would be something to see . is the white a strain of cat or an elbino ?
Thanks for reminding me about archives. I’ve been doing a lot of reading in magazines and such but what good is it if you have no clue where the fish are and when you don’t have a way of getting through the ice?
if you know someone who knows how to weld , they could make you a spud pretty inexpencive . at the stores the run around $20.00 .
for a good spot , just look to where the other ice fishing guys are . sometimes it’s easier to let the other guys scout for you .
there are tones of tips here in the ice fishing board, start with ice fishing tip of the day and brouse through those,
remember the rules of spring summer and fall fishing, the fish behave the same only the seasons are first ice mid winter and late ice. where you found your self in srping summer and fall you will find your self haunting the same gounds on ice respectively.
use the hand made unit (bobbin with jig) cost is a stick with string a jig and maybe a bobber.
as to finding the fish, you will have to work to find them if you dont have a clue, but that is half the fun some times. use binaculars to scope out the lake for other anglers old fishing holes.
even if you find them dosnt mean they will bite, some times they feed just below the ice some times suspended and others and the bottom of the lake looking for bugs hatching off the bottom.
note the times you see other anglers on the water, the time of day the fish are going to hit will vary in a month. but not so much day by day. tho they can turn off compleatly for several days with out notice. other times you cant hardly get a hook in the water with out coming up with a fish or three.

Hey guys, nice fish so far! Hopefully I will get a chance to go out sometime in the near future ! With all this snow here lately I’m guessing it would be really hard to get around on the ice.

i was fishing near a sharp drop about 3’,when i picked up t,he line i had a lot of slack,when i felt tension i quickly pulled up.there he was still holding on to my minnow.i guess i wass closer to the drop than i thought.ther was one other person on the pond that day,i had to go show him because i could not believe it,this is the first time for me
i couldn’t tell you,my friend is a state biologst.he came over when i was thawing the fish out in the sink.he told me the state put them in when they made this pond in the 20’s,i am not much of a cat fisherman, it is all ****luck.
basicly it’s a large chisel . you chip at the ice to make a hole .
a sturdy rod 3/4 " x 5 to six feet long , and weld a 1/2"x 2"x 4" piece of steel on it’s tip with a 45 degree edge on the tip .
