I’m good with either the 26th or the 2nd. And I’ll bring my fish breader and Cabelas fish breading mix (original and cajon). I’ll be using my ATV and can ferry stuff back and forth from the parking lot.
I live in Hooper (west of Roy) and can carry 3 other people down from the Ogden area if anybody feels like car pooling. That would help with the fuel bill for all of us. I like to stop for a good breakfast and would suggest the Cracker Barrel in Springville.
PM me if interested in the pooling along with the breakfast.
I talked with Pikeman this morning. He and his wife put on a great perch fry and kid’s fishing contest last year at Jordanelle and he is good to go for this one. I told him I would bring my cordless electric knife for filleting and help wherever else I can.
Pikeman has some connections with Sportsmans and got some nice icefishing rod/reel combos for the kids last year. His requirement for the kids to win one was to have them write a brief essay on “Why I like Fishing”…or something like that. Here is a link to LAST YEAR’S PERCHATHON It was held on March 3 and it was minus 7 degrees on the ice when we went out and stayed cold. Just about had to eat frozen fish.
I would love to join you guys but can’t make it until Feb. as I’m off to Atlanta on another TDY. If you should happen to hold it then I would like to attend.
Are they going to have another kids contest and can a child too young to write be involved? He can definately hold his own in the fishing department.[;)]
As I recall, we had some “pre-keyboard” kids last year. I think Pikeman just did a personal interview and got them to participate. The idea is to get the kids involved…not to exclude them on a technicality.
I think I remember Pikeman saying that he collected the kids replies and took them to Sportsmans for them to display. Good PR all around.
Nice, He would love it. We’ll be there for sure. I can help with the filleting or whatever too. If it is at Yuba i will bring the Grizz 700 and also help move the masses(ice permitting).
Hey Tubedude…do you thing Feb 2nd is too soon to get everything organized? I don’t see any problem if the kids can’t write yet…as long as their parents bring them so they can catch a fish.
Pikeman…since you gathered some bootie from Sportsman’s last year…what’s the odds on some freebi’s this year?
One more thing…if everyone could bring one potluck item to add to the perchlets that would make for a well rounded meal.
Generator sounds good. Now to just set the date, time and agenda…
I’ll bring some of my wifes packrat-ready for WWIII-overstocked- bootie from the grocery store(in the basement). I have m&m’s, juice, dorito’s, all kinds of boxed potatoes, and tons of other stuff. So who is going to decide on the date?? Any saturday works for me.
I have a burner or two I can bring. I might also be able to help get some things donated by Sportsman’s for the kids as well. Let me see what I can do…
I am going to make a suggestion. If we really want to do this right, allowing plenty of time for planning and organization, lets look at either Feb 9 or 16th. Yuba usually stays frozen good until then, and sometimes the end of season perchin is great. By then, maybe Jordanelle will be the hot ticket. We can kinda watch the reports and make a final decision on the venue the week before.
I am sure that Pikeman will chime in soon. He knows we want to do something and once we firm up the date we can start a thread on the “Event” board to bring it all together.
I am chiming. Momma say the 16th is the only day she can possibly get away. She will come cook if we would like her to. But if we choose another date I will still be part. I can check on some prizes. The way I did it last year was if they wrote an essay on why they like to fish. It could be brief or long and thanking sportsmans in the note. It had to be the first come first serve till the prizes were gone. So then the kids could fish with them right off the bat. Let me know what we decide. Pikeman GO FISH
Good point, TD, at first it didn’t seem like a big thing but this may take some solid preparation. I was thinking about it today at work and one of those fold up tables would be nice. I can be hardcore but still don’t like my food on the ice… I’ve got a bunch of heavy duty garbage bags I can bring to make sure we don’t leave anything behind.
I’m sure this will all be repeated on the ‘official post’, I’m just brainstorming I suppose.
TD lets set the date for the 16 th Pikeman and his better 1/2 can make it and lets plan on Yuba that gives us three weeks to get the plans in line…
We can have a kids big fish prize and maybe one for the old fokes like you..[;)]
Well lets say kids that don’t need a licenses for one group and then all the rest or something like that, I have some scales to use…
And we could maybe use the lower parking lot at painted rocks to set up…What about TV coverage???
One of them mite like to join in the fun and maybe the DWR as well…I have an Elc. fillet knife and a table…
TD can you start the post so those who would like to can post who is coming and what they can help with or bring…Anyone who can think of anything we need or needs said let us know…Oh what about BFT stickers or flags and things???
I can summon my Eagle Powers for the good weather.. So, we’ll be good to go.
I have a pretty decent Fryer (needs electricity) that I can bring, if we don’t want to pan-fry the fillets.. Sometimes it’s nice to just pull a basket out of the oil and dump the meat into a dish for the masses..
**I think I am going to assign responsibility for coordinating this even between Bassrods and Pikeman. They can start a list of who will be bringing what…or doing what. **
Of course we appreciate all offers and hope to be able to get everybody participating in some fashion…even if it is just fishing and eating.
