BFT Flotilla 2016 Changes/Issues

Hey all I’ve been approached by a couple anonymous donors that have offered to cover the pavilion fee so it looks like Willard can be a go. I do have a new issue we are working, it involves the food. The application implies we may need a food handlers permit to provide food. If this is true we might have to have everyone bring their own lunches. Sorry for all the headaches this year. I will let you know soon what is happening with this issue. A big thanks to our donors that have made this possible for us to stay at the bay. Later J

A Food Handlers Permit, seriously ? Does that mean all the big family picnics I see at WB during the summer that have 2 or 3 grills going have to get a permit ? Come on Utah DNR, sounds like another ploy for getting more $.

Can we call the Flotilla “The Annual Willard Bay BFT Family Reunion”?

Could we get a mess of pizza’s delivered to WB ? [crazy]

As long as people don’t have to pay for the meal then you wouldn’t need a food handler permit. If people just potlucked the food then the permit wouldn’t be needed. It’s no different than a family reunion or a group of family and friends.

A food handler permit is needed when the public is going to be involved and/or food for sale. The State uses the term “vendor” to describe those who need to obtain a temporary food vendor permit and food handler permit. Bear River Health Dept also says that a temporary food vendor permit and food handler permit would be needed if the food were for sale. My wife is the office manager at Bear Lake State Park and said the State gets antsy about money changing hands, especially if the park already has a vendor or concessionaire in place. If done as a club or group of friends there should be no problem, but the group special use permit would still apply and need to be paid regardless of the food thing.

I would assume that everyone donating 5 bucks toward the total cost of food without allowing the general public to participate and providing the food with no expectations of compensation to the BFT members would keep the group legal by health department standards and SHOULD be fine with the State Park manager. May have to argue it a little though if he/she insists. Heck, we ask our family members to kick in at our family reunions to cover food costs and it usually works great.

You got it exactly right Mike, the Willard park manager called me back last night and what you wrote here, is exactly what he said, so we are good to go.

Thanks Mike, I think we are a go for the get together. I sure appreciate everyone’s knowledge and help on these things I don’t understand and also the financial assistance we have received. It looks like we’ll get a party after all. I’ll get the permit request in Monday and hopefully I’m not too late there. See if I can find some prizes for a drawing and pray for good weather and we should be good. Thanks J

Forest it looks like we got it cleared up. Thanks J

Sweet, too bad I can’t make it. Have fun!
