Fish caught out of a stream always put up a better fight, not just because of current. I think it comes because of their competative nature from living in a harsher environment. The king of stream fish is the tiger trout. Never caught one over 12 inches, but they fight like the dickens.

Lake Texoma is on the Texas - Oklahoma border. It’s a huge man made impoundment formed when the Corps of Engineers dammed the Red River. I was fishing just north of Denton Texas with Striper Express Guide Service. I highly recomend them if your ever down that way. And no I didn’t get her through the ice. I just squnted real hard and pretended. She’s still in the lake, since I let her go.

Pound for pound the hardest fighting fish I’ve ever had the pleasure to catch is the albacore tuna, hands down. It’s like hooking the bumper of a truck. I’ve had longer tussles with yellowfin tuna, but they were much larger. Try it sometime.

Good Fishing, Kayote

I saw no one mentioned silvers. They have got to be the craziest fish I have ever hooke into. I have had them burn up my drag on an expensive reel. I seen them jump over 5 feet in the air and even had one jump about 3 feet on shore. Now that is the way to land them. Pound for pound there is nothing like a fresh silver. At least not that can be caught in fresh water. I have caught musky, kings, steelhead, macks, and Stipers all in the 15 pound class and none of them were anything like a silver. Have yet to catch a small mouth so I can’t really compare. I must admit a striper is a close second.

Did someone say Tuna? I’ll look for my Tuna pictures and post them later. I love catching Tuna also, especially Blue Fin and Big Eye. Heck, there is no fish I don’t like to catch. Except for Moray eels, but, they’re not really a fish are they?

Here are my big 5, the 5 species I like for fighting quality the best. I just listed the general species, since to break them out is impossible.

Jacks, Tuna, Salmon, Stripers and Cobia. Maybe next week we’ll do favorite ones to eat. I know Walleye and Triggerfish will be on my list.

My votes -

#1: Sockeye salmon in a river fresh from the ocean;
#2: Summer run steelhead (like fighting a fish that is turbocharged).

without a doubt the very best fish to catch is the one ya have on your pole whether it be little 6 inch native trout to the huge tuna. I really don’t care what it is as long as I catch it 😛 and feel the fight.
