I use popccorn soaked in molasses, or sweet corn tied up in spawn bags.when using corn chum your area first with some kernels and juice out of the can.
I have tried carp dough, but have never caught anything. Throw bread near the shore, attract ducks, the carp see that and come inland, but make sure the water is not to clear. But a piece of bread on your hook, and the carp will suck that thing up quicker then you can imagine.

In my opinion the best bait is any bait that is highly attractive and dipped properly. 
My family has caught carp that makes that one look like a baby…
Biggest Carp ever caught weighed 38 lbs out of the Ohio River on Hot dog… At the age of 9 my sister caught carp weighed 24 lbs on Wheatie Ball. All summer long in Marina cove on the Ohio River, we would have about 10 kids every night fishing for carp. Old man in his 80’s taught all of us the secret bait that would out catch any other bait… I would set there and watch him bring 15lbers left after right and was addicted to carp fishing until I graduated high school.
Best way to get those damn suckers is to go out with an electric pole and shock 'em. Throw the corpses on shore and you’ll see the 50+ lb bastards that turned your boyhood fishing hole into a mudpit devoid of any indiginous life.
