Welp, I’m still on the hunt (mostly holding out for the wasatch fly tying expo to try everything I’m looking at all at the same time!
Has anyone use any of the cabelas rods? Yays or Nays for them? Read in a couple of spots that G Loomis has made their LSi rod. Not sure if this is true or not.
I have had a couple. I had the Stowaway 7 in a four for the Uintas. That thing was not only compact enough to fit in a back pocket, but long enough to mend on several currents, it had a fantastic feel.
I use a Cabela’s rod right now for my Carp Fishing. Perfect action.
Are you looking for a fast action?
Ya know, I’m not really sure at the moment what kind of action I’d like… Both my 5wt and 6wt are pretty fast and stiff. I want something with a full flex, more sensitivity. Even thought about getting a glass rod. That’s more of the reason why I’m waiting for the Expo this weekend to try out a bunch of rods! Just trying to get everyones opinions first to add some info to my selection.
I have a 6 foot Griggs 3 wt. It is a fast action all the way and tough to cast any kind of distance. Works best with a four weight line which kinda defeated the purpose ![]()
I also have a 5’3" glass 4/5 weight. It too is a fast action even though glass. It works best with a 4 wt Triangle Taper.
Then I have the 6’6" Cabela’s glass and I can roll cast an easy 50’, plus easy bow and arrow the fly in tight quarters. It is a 4/5 as well.
My LL is a medium fast action and a pleasure at a 2 wt. but it is 7’ 9".
Spring Creek rods are what you might want to focus on.
