Great report! It took me back over 50 years, when my parents took me to Disneyland as a kid. Despite all the fun rides, my brother and I had the most fun fishing off a pier on what used to be called “Tom Sawyer’s Island” and catching little panfish with a little bamboo fishing pole. My dad was very frustrated that we had traveled all the way to southern California and he had paid big bucks to get us into Disneyland, and all we wanted to do was catch little fish and throw them back. That island has probably been developed into another big thrills ride now, but the memories are still with me.

The island is still there. Used for fantasmic at night and called pirates lair during the day.
Thanks HD7000 and TubeDude for all the great info. I’ll likely stick to the piers and check out some of the charters. I don’t envision myself moving to California but this could be an exciting new way to change up the scenery and chalk up some new fish species.
Since I got out to Oakland once a year I went ahead and purchased a salt water rod (two actually) that I can haul out with me. The piers are a great place to kill some time while I am out there.
Thanks for that information. I guess the more important question is, are the fish still there and do they let kids catch them?
