I would suggest you allow bow fishing for the largest carp or at least have a seperate category for largest bow fished carp. I Love shooting carp at Willard!

Not to be contentious, but this is a CATFISH thing. If you want a carp bowfishing contest then set it up.
Jeff- Catfish contest already ? I’m ok with that, but Willard is still iced, at least as of last weekend. Need to start getting my boat and other gear back in shape I guess. First order of business, get rearm cylinders ordered for my auto-inflating PFD’s.

**No worries. I am aware that some carp already sneaked in the back door on the contest. They are sneaky…as well as stinky.
Just sayin’ that we don’t wanna lose sight of the original contest. And just for the record, I love to ventilate carpkind as much as anyone. Had to back off the last couple of years. My shoulder complained too much about the strain of a day of twanging.

The only cats I caught last year were sub footers out of the Colorado. Hope to do better this year.

We dropped the bow sticking carp last year because it’s much easier to stick a carp than trick a carp into biting. I’m wondering if the carp category may have run its ground as part of the catfish contest. I’ve been kicking around another idea that I shouldn’t post because it may mean more than I can cover but if it takes off maybe we can get more help. Then again maybe there won’t be any interest either.
My thought is a soft water contest like the ice challenge where you can use any legal method to bag your fish in the five categories and there would be individual category winners and an overall winner. This way we can add the carp to that contest and keep the catfish contest as a species specific grudge match. What are your thoughts that way? Later J
Hey Forest, I know it’s early but guess this might give team south a chance for redemption, at least until we get some soft water to start working. With all the high flows we may have a tough start up north. Will put you down on list as soon as I get it started. Later J
Jeff-- I say don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. It has been a fun catfish contest for the past few years and I see no need to change it but, new ideas should be welcome for all to consider. I’m in no matter where it goes.
We had a prize for the first fish over 27 inches last year. How about a prize for my.. .umm… the first 30 incher posted this year?

The first 30 incher will show in March and will weigh about 13 pounds from a diet of white bass.

Yep, 13 pounds easy. The cats wintered well on a diet of dead carp, white bass, and Junnies. They’ll be fat and sassy and ready to fight early this year. Count on it.[;)]

Ah Lynn I thought you were going to start off with that 36"er so you didn’t have to work so hard all season… Wouldn’t be as much fun if it were easy though… I’m thinking of keeping the cat contest pretty true to the past, but there are a few ideas I think we should look deeper into.. For instance that idea of perhaps allowing one fish out of your home area, providing for tudor trips might be fun to add to the contest, plus some of the north guys may like to start fishing before July so maybe they can come down and join you for the preseason… I’ll try and get things started this week as far as sign ups go and all… Fishing to start March 1st… More later, J

I think anytime their removal is encouraged it’s a good thing, but it does seem the sentiment being expressed is to do away with the carp category. Bring on the catfish! [fishon]

Definately “Team North”. Hoping the Bear River is going to grant me the big cat this year. Been quite awhile since I’ve caught one over 5lbs there but I know they’re in there. Might have to try Cutler too.
