i dont feal shortening hunt dates is the cure.[crazy] lions kill far moore deer per yr than us deer hunters harvest. if we have 3000 lions and eatch kill 1 deer per month that is 36,000 killed by cats. most cats kill 1 per week this adds up to 156,000 per yr. this is a very big part of utahs problem as i see it. now throw in cyotes, bears, and utah is screwed. the hunters kill less than 20,000 per yr.[:/] anyone else see the real problem?
That is too bad they let that happen again to the herds year before last. With the devastation and time it took to recover from the same problem in the early 90’s I would think they would act a little earlier on those herds.
One of the problems I see with the three day hunt is if you draw the buck bull combo hunt you can hunt deer in the Ogden unit for 2 weeks with your rifle. The hunt gets over and then everyone else only gets 3 days. Why keep the buck bull combo tag? If northern utah is hurting so much because of the rifle hunters, why issue these tags?
Not sure, but I can assure you that there will be tons of people putting in for that combo hunt. This is the last year they will have it before the big 2011 changes take place.
I really hope they change to micro units, it would be great for the management and herds. This is exactly what other states like Colorado do, and look at the herds over there.
The fact is, someone is always going to be mad about decisions made by the DWR. But we need to focus on what’s best for the deer numbers.
You should still be able to hunt with your family and friends, I would imagine you could still apply as a group for the micro units. I guess we will find out pretty soon.
