Normally this time of year I expect the bass bite to slow down with the cooler weather. Well about a week ago the canal near my house was crystal clear for some reason and it stayed clear for that day only. I noticed there were a lot of largemouth so I started fishing for them. I'm assuming the water is warmer in the canals than the lakes around town because they were extremely active and aggressive. I've caught 30 since that day last week. I know the arizona boards are all but dead on here but just thought I'd share incase someone cares to hear about it.

Good to read there is still someone left in Az that doesn't mind posting on the BFT Az board. Good going on the bass, was there any size to them?
By the way, did you read this report:

Yeah I'm still here and still like to read reports of people catching fish in other places. The bass weren't too big. I got into one section where I caught a bunch around a pound and the biggest about 2 pounds. Nothing huge but it's nice to have good bass fishing in the winter. I had not seen that report but it does get me motivated to go after some of those monster crappie. A few of my friends make frequent trips to Roosevelt about an hour and a half from here and they've also pulled in a few 3 pound fish. I have yet to try my luck there but hope to soon. I'm about half way through my helicopter training so I'm hoping I get a little more free time once I'm finished.

I guess you never made it back to your walleye spot last Fall?
Way back when, I use to work on helicopters, are the ones you are training on single engine models? I worked on the smaller Bell duel engine type.

I wasn't able to make it to my walleye lake this last fall but nothing will stand in my way next fall. I'm doing my training on the Robinson R22. They're small and basic. They've got a single small piston engine. I can't wait to fly a turbine chopper with tons of power. Were you doing mechanic work on the helicopters?

Mechanic but I did get a chance to fly one once. It would do about 140 knots. I'm guessing you are training to be a pilot?

Well 140 knots is faster than I've flown. Our never exceed speed in the R22 is 102 knots airspeed. I have done 128 knots ground speed with a huge tail wind. Yes I'm training to be a pilot. I currently have my private certificate with my instrument rating and I will have my commercial certificate by mid April and will hopefully be a working flight instructor by the end of the year. It's a lot of fun but it takes me away from fishing. I'm hoping one day I can combine the two and fly into my favorite fishing hole.

Yea, being able to fly into remote areas and fish would be a blast. Good luck, hope your able to do both when you are done with the training.

Yup I used to fish the canal adjacent to Cortez Park. Used to stand on the gates. The bass would be laying right up against the east side of it. Just dropped a rubber worm straight down and Wam!!!!!!!.
These days I'm fishing Red Mountain Lake in Mesa. I'm always trying to find out the exact day they put in the trout. Hoping to find a blog where someone would post it.[cool]
