I had some clients to deliver to Eden today so I thought I'd post up what I saw as I drove by Pineview.
The narrows are frozen and 3 parties were fishing a little ways out from the caretakers house at the bottom of his access ramp. There was some open water on the far side and the people who were fishing were not very far out.
There was a party of 4 or 5 fishing out off Browning point.
There were a bunch of people fishing off the docks at the Port ramp.
The caretakers pullout is not plowed, the port ramp is not either but it is packed enough that a normal car with snow tires should be OK.
Air temp at 10 am this morning was 12 degrees.

I totally know what you mean. And to think, this giant lake that everyone already knows about and fishes every year is no longer a secret. Seriously, what was this guy thinking!

Last year it was perfect. The open water beyond the buoys made most people think the ice wasn't safe and the crowds never really gathered on the narrows.
Thankfully, a lot of people are too lazy to walk down the caretaker's hill to check it for themselves. I clapped my hands for every "I don't think the ice is safe on the narrows" post I saw on BFT; and there were quite a few. Those of us on the 8" of ice were "crazy."
Last summer I posted my last fishing report on BFT after I hammered the smallmouth at East Canyon on a weekday afternoon. I felt pretty proud and wanted to brag a little. So I posted specific details about what I used and where I caught them. Never again... The next day I went to Sporty's and the lure I had just referenced was completely sold out. I went back to EC that afternoon and 3 of the 5 or so boats on the lake were right where I had explained in my post.
This was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Last winter a report was posted on a Saturday by someone who had a legendary crappie day off Browning Point. You may remember it; they had photoshopped the picture to try to hide the location. I was on the ice that day with less than a dozen other fishermen. By Sunday at noon there was at least a hundred people fishing Browning Point.
You see it anytime a positive report is posted about any of the dozen or so waterways along the valley front. Reservoirs like Starvation are affected much less because a majority of people aren't willing to drive 2+ hrs from the valley to fish there based on a hot tip from a website.
I share info with a very small group of folks on this website. I'm with TubeDude though, if someone hits me with the kid pitch, I'll do what I can to help put them on the fish.
I just retired from BFT.
Cheers.

Being from Ogden,I fish that lake every weekend in the winter. I can see your point on posting a report on how hot the fishing is or was in a particular spot and having every one and there dog there the next weekend. I have put some miles on that lake and hours on my auger trying to find the Crappie up there. I wont be posting any hot days that we speak of either.
With that said I will be posting ice, temp, and maybe the occasional what they were hitting on because I cannot say I havent looked at this website for some info and not necessarily say I fished in someones spot but rather took their advice on what was hot to use. I dont see a problem with someone saying there was ice on the lake and people were on it. Just sayin

Wasn't this site made to share tips tactics and experiences? I for you actually enjoy the fellow anglers sharing where the fishings hot it help me with putting my son on fish and the other young people im trying to get into the sport of ice fishin. I think its your own fault to give exact spot of a honey hole but to completely stop posting because you dont want others to fish anywhere you have had a good day is just selfish in my opinion but hey to each there own

That's what I was trying to get across. I don't have a problem sharing the tackle, ice thickness, etc. it's when you post your location then everyone is there. I usually will tell a couple people if they PM me. I agree with you on taking your kid out and putting him on fish. I would be the same way if my daughter was old enough. But hey I like to find the hot spots myself. Kind of makes you feel like you accomplished something.

Just a friendly reminder --
[#0000ff]HOT SPOTTING:
When a poster of a new thread does not wish to ID a certain body of water, NO MEMBER will reply giving the name of that body of water. In the same regard, if a member wants to post all the details on a spot they fished....they can do so without being harassed for hot spotting as long as the fish were caught in a legal manner and no laws were broken.
If someone chooses to ignore this rule and post the name anyway or harasses a member for making the post, their post will be edited with a PM sent warning them that what they did is not allowed. If that member chooses to ignore the warning, then it will be grounds for banning that member. [/#0000ff]
