Huge DC browns?
#1
So I was at that little fishing shop over by the Payson walmart (awesome store...the fishing shop that is...quite a few unique items, and the pricing is better than the big hitters if you ask me. Anyways the guy has a 29 lb. brown mounted on his wall that he claims came out of DC. He told me that big browns aren't uncommon in DC. Is this true? I've heard stories of big fish breaking lines out there including a possible lake trout or splake (can't remember which) that were planted in there in the 70's, as rumor has it. The shop owner said the DWR shocked the water to make the fish float and said there weren't a ton, but a fair amount of extra large trout in there, again, this is what the guy was telling me. Can anybody confirm or refute the claims? Pictures welcomed[Wink]

DC has produced some massive Browns but as far as I know its been many many years since the last truely biggin was landed. Of course thats not to say there might not be a few biggin's in that pond to be had yet today. But 29lb,,?,, maybe.
My pappy was known to pull some huge Brown from the Upper Provo in the 60's. And as i recall, a dandy brown over 20 was taking from Hobble creek in the early 70's. 29lb from DC,? Yeah maybe..
Not all who catch a biggin feel a need to go in the books.

Sorry, Not to detour your post but I was wondering what is the name the fishing shop in payson? I'd rather support a local shop than a "big box store." thanks

To be honest I don't know the name of the shop, but it sits in that little strip mall where Tsing Tao (the best chinese restaurant in Utah), Pizza Hut, and other shops are. It's not even been there a year I don't think.

I dont know how many times i have passed that store to get my pizza or chinese food and never been inside. I am gonna have to go inside after work one of these days and i will get you the name of the shop.I have caught many browns at DC and maybe i have been lucky but i always catch at least one on every trip.I have had several break offs and fought some biguns dont know for sure if they were big browns or snagged carp but i troll with rapalas up to 12inches. I have released some browns up to 27 inches so i know they are in there.

Wow i would love to see that- A 29 pound Brown from the West Coast would be a true fish of a lifetime !! and the biggest Brown out of Utah since the old Flaming Gorge days- If u can please take a pic of the mount and post it so we can see - I doubt I will ever be in Payson to see it myself. -Thanks

I'm not down in Payson too often, but my inlaws live down in that neck of the woods, so I'm sure I can take a pic eventually. Hopefully someone from Payson can recon for us!
