It was one of those days today when the stress had caught up with me. I really needed to chill, so I through in the pole and went for a drive to clear my head and ended up at LB. I fished the docks for awhile with no bites, I walked over to the south dike and the carp were gorging themselves so I thought, I hate carp but I want a good fight, so I rigged up a bobber and jig and cast 10 feet past the bunch, I slowly reeled my jig into them and wham! A big one nailed it. I set the hook and man the fight was on, after about 10 minutes of fun he snapped my fresh 10 lb line. He looked to be about 30" or so, that was just what the doc ordered. I caught a few more and decided to head back to the harbor.

I.knew the whites were in there so I decided to see what I could do, I rigged up again and tossed out the line, I would let it sit for a bit then just give it a tap, tap, tap, and the bobber went under ever so slightly, I did it again and the softest of bytes, so I thought, fine this is like ice fishing, I jig again ever so slightly, and I was ready this time and set the hook, bingo nice 14" white, so now I had the pattern, however I had to wait a few minutes to let the school settle down after pulling out one of there buddies. For the next hour i finessed in 12. Nice whites,

It was a great way to calm the nerves, enjoy the beauty, and catch a few fish to boot.

Now if I could find some time to get to strawberry, it's killing me, soon I hope!!!

Nice that you actually went out specifically targeting carp. Too bad the brute broke you off, same thing happened to my twin when he fought a 30+ icncher at Willard Bay for an hour and a half. I have never targeted them but I never mind the fight they put up, that and some kitty bait for later. Tugs are tugs!

Great that you can fish under stress. Usually I find that I have real trouble getting out there but once I do I never regret getting out! Glad to see the White's gave you fights. I have noticed the White Bass in the Jordan Canal seem to require a certain finesse to them as well. 14 inches is a great size, congrats!

Those Carp fight like hell once they get hooked....maybe they know that the Carp removal program is coming for them. If only they did not smell/taste so bad...then I would target them more often. BTW....a 14 inch White Bass is a great size for Utah Lake....some buddies of mine claim that there are some 16 to 17 inchers in there....can't wait to hook into one of those during next years White Bass spawn.....or when the hard deck arrives.
