Did a drive by yesterday and the whole lake looked ice covered no open water that I could see, the wind looked like it was blowing the snow off the ice...

Do they plow down to CCE or just to CCW?

don't know if they plow it or not haven't fished CCE or CCW in a few years. We may also end up at scofield if the berry still has unsafe ice in the spots we would like to try

Thanks again,

Fished the berry all day today and the two words to describe it are COLD and SLOW! We got on the ice round 8 and fished for 6 or so hours and caught 2 between us all day. We stayed at mud creek all day along with plenty of others. People we talked to told of similar luck. We started close to the parking lot and it had around 4 solid inches of ice plus at least another 4 in frozen slush. We then ventured down farther than anyone else where we found about 3 inches without the slush so we decided thats as far as we were willing to venture. It was nice to be on the berry for the first time of the year but the fish decided not to show up..at least for us![pirate]

Parking was no biggie, probably need a 4 wheel drive though. the lot was cleared pretty well.

Yeah the roads were plowed but wouldn't try it without 4 wheel drive. Were going to wait till some of the other favorite areas have safe ice before making the 2 hour drive back up there. Let us know how you do.. I hope better than we did!

Strawberry Bay area is [#ff0000]NOT SAFE!!![#000000] A BFTer went through today in 40[/#000000][/#ff0000]' of water! He got out ok, but that is all i know. I am not going to say who it was. I will see if they want to tell the story or keep it to themselves.[pirate]

Good to hear he got out okay. i have gone through twice and both times it was near shore, about waist deep. not fun, i won't fish anything under 3-4" of ice anymore since i usually fish alone.

Anybody have any reports from CCE, CCW or the ladders? We are heading up to the berry on Monday. I'll let you all know how we do and what the road conditions were like. C'mon good fishing karma...

5 of us hit strawberry today also the roads were dry
once you were out of weber canyon all the way to the summit. We check out CCW but it was not plowed but CCE was plowed to restroom snow was knee high. We did not want to drag through the hundred yards of deep snow to the water. We ended up at the marina walking behind the person who fell through after seeing that we stopped and drilled some holes in the ice, as was said not the best conditions we fished in 20 to 25ft of water. We ended up with about 50 fish between the five of us the fishing was good in the morning then slowed until afternoon and picked up again we left at 3 p.m.

We fished CCE yesterday and the pull from the parking area to the lake was a pain. The ice had about 2 inches of clear ice with about 6-8 inches of frozen slush on top of it. Where the snow had drifted there was some slush but where it was blown off it was solid. We got there a bit late in the morning and stayed till 4pm. We were glad we had the ice huts because it was way cold. We did OK for the fish, it was a bit slow but we each caught and released 6-8 slot cutts and a few rainbows. We were using white tube jigs and green jigs tipped with a crawler.

Alright, alright... it was me...

No fun at all. I would probably wait a few more days before fishing Strawberry Bay. It's not that there isn't any safe ice, but there are obviously soft spot covered in snow. That's what I believe I stepped on, because I had drilled a test hole 5 yards away and there was 3-4" of good solid ice, and about 6" of frozen slush.

I stopped at the spot where I fell to start drilling my fishing holes, and through I went. I went in to about my belly button, and stopped myself with my arms. As I was pulling myself out, I could feel thicker ice on the edge. I got out quickly (just made sure not to panic and thrash about) and rolled back towards the test hole I had drilled moments ago.

Like I said, no fun at all. Luckily I had really decent gear and I really didn't get all that wet. A little water in my left boot and none in my right.
