Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet and ask questions of Arizona Game and Fish commissioners at the annual Meet the Commission meeting on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 2532 W. Peoria Ave., in Phoenix.
The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. with the chairman's welcome, director's presentation, and 2007 Year in Review video presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session with the commissioners. "Every year, we spend a day making sure our customers get to know the Arizona Game and Fish commissioners who make the decisions that affect them," says Marty Fabritz, the department's ombudsman. "Each commissioner will make a statement, and then, the public can ask questions and give comments about what's important to them."
The commission will also hold its regular meeting on Friday, Jan. 18, in the Quail Room Auditorium of the new Arizona Game and Fish Department headquarters at 5000 W. Carefree Highway in Phoenix. Items on Friday's agenda include:
"¢ A briefing on issues associated with lead from spent ammunition, department programs related to the lead issue, and ideas regarding any future programs.
"¢ An update on the history of coordinated attempts between the department and other agencies to resolve the issue of bison moving onto Grand Canyon National Park, and some options considered to date.
"¢ An informational briefing on coordination efforts with the State Mine Inspector's Office regarding the closure of abandoned mines.
"¢ Request for commission approval for the department to acquire Phase III of the Coal Mine Canyon property for recovery of the endangered Gila topminnow.
"¢ Consideration of the 12A Habitat Stamp Fund budget for the 2008 calendar year.
The commission may vote to take action on, or provide the department direction on, these and other agenda items. The Friday portion of the meeting starts at 8 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
