cracked fingers
#1
Has anyone found anything that keeps away, cures, stops the middle of the winter cracked fingertip problem? I know they're just little cracks but they are a major pain.

Corn Huskers lotion. Only found in some stores. Been around for years and years. All the fisherman in my family use it and swear by it.

I use Krazy glue (instant) applied directly to the cracks! Works great.

If you are worried about the content of Krazy glue, then get the more expensive liquid bandage.

I go to Powell a couple of times each year for a week at a time, and the cracks get real bad with fishing, fileting, washing dishes, etc.. Works great, along with a good hand lotion.

thanks for asking about the cracked fingers, I too have painful cracked fingers right now, mostly from work but, they hurt all the same, I tried the super glue, and the corn huskers lotion, I like the huskers but, I cant seem to find it though.

Try walmart in the "beauty" section. Usually on the very bottom shelf and not always with the lotion. When i find it I buy 5 or 6 bottles at a time! Good luck!

when I was little I used to have that problem really bad and here are the two best things I have found. One is vaseline on a bandaide. It helps the skin get enough moisture and it protects the sores. The second and this may sound wierd, but works like a charm (although it stings just a little). IF you have a split that keeps opening up squirt some superglue in there and hold it together. Superglue was invented to hold skin together in the first place and it works like a charm. the splits don't open up, and the superglue forms a protective layer and falls off as the split heals,

I'll agree on the superglue method. I have even used it on fairly bad cuts and woulds to seal and protect the area from bacteria and such. It stings just a little when you first apply it, but it makes a strong waterproof barrier. I first leaned about this from a doctor when I was a kid. He sealed up a wound on my knee with superglue and sent me on my way.

The glue will work its way off in about 2 or 3 days, just enough time to let those pesky cracks heal up. Just don't pick at it!

Perch, I used to get cracked fingers a lot and the superglue method really works but a good friend who washes his hands a bunch on a daily basis due to his work put me onto one TBSP of Flax Seed oil a day (in the a.m.) and cetaphil waterless hand cleaner + cetaphil lotion. He said sometimes you have to wash with water, and you definitely get your hands wet when fishing, but as much as possible to use the waterless stuff. Haven't had any problems for a couple of years now. [Smile]

I know this will be hard for you to believe but I like Bag Balm. It is used on milk cows to keep their milk faucets from cracking. I have used it for years. Also helps heal small abrasions quickly. You can purchase it at the IFA store.

Thanks for all the info. I went and bought some Aquaphor and corn huskers. I've tried the super glue and bag balm in the past. Both are good after the fact. I want something that stops it before it starts. I hadn't heard of the flax oil. I will try that, too. I appreciate all the response. This is apparently a real nusiance problem for many.
