Premier Trip 7/29 Sandies and Cuda
#1
Hey there guys,

Rode the Premier today. Danny at the helm and Mikie on deck. Good anchovies and sardines. 40 plus anglers made it a lite load. Travel time to the hot spot in Santa Monica Bay took about 1 hour and 45 minutes just like last report!

Overcast in the AM burned off really quickly. Ocean was flat.... but then again it's supposed to be as the world is also flat Right ?! little humor there ... ya very little ! Current was slight and great conditions for plastics ... BUT .. as uusual ....the morning has stunk in the 'wide-open department' tossin' for sandbass on the plastics. Baits was the deal unless....... you're me ! Wind picked up in the afternoon. Our hound dog friends only chased us off a spot once.

Few moves today, mostly to get the sandies.... with an occasional flurry of really quality barracuda fishing, ranging from 6 to 7 pounds. Me ... yep .....plastics ONLY! Used a lighter leadhead as the fish seemed to hang in the top 20 or 30 feet of the water column!

At the same time, the sandbass seemed to be caught 90% of the time on the dropper loop. Not many using the reverse droppr loop which I think is better for a bite that is more mid-depth than bottom. Opinions welcome on this !

Nothing special on keying in on the sandies as they were being caught with the green colors at mid-depth to near the bottom of the water column. Again..... not getting slammed but picked up. Have you ever heard someone say their plastic came up with their 'trousers down'? To those that haven't heard the phrase... it means the plastic has been grabbed and almost pulled off the leadhead. Cool huh!?

Not cool thing: Spiked MYSELF !! Dude ...bouncing the only grumpy I boated, I swung him over and onto my calf! His biggest badest spike rammed into me and there was enough blood to soak my left foot sock to a nice pink! I can't believe you can bleed that much from one dorsal spine hit. I didn't realize how much I bled until I took off my boot.

Most anglers took home limits and others, like me, were just happy to have the decent action. We got back to Pierpoint landing around 6:30. Not many (5 pound +) grumpies taken today at all in the sandbass department ! Barracuda won the jackpot. Pretty Big !

Great boat, crew, and fishing with a couple of board guys.... (posters or lurkers not sure.....?? . Ain't too hard to tell if someone is on the boards when they check out my fishing internet shirts!!

happy fishing everybody,

JapanRon
