Took my boy out to Willard from 530-8 tonight. Headed to the SW corner. Starting with 1 rod pulling a silver crank and 1 rod with a crawler harness and bottom weight. Crawler harness caught the first couple fish, all walleye. Switched both rods to bottom rigs and both did well. Had a couple short term hookups that didnt stay on, still trying to teach him how to get them to the boat. Ended the night with a double and a race to see who could land their fish first. He won with a 22" eye. 6 walleye and a fat cat made it into the boat. Sorry North, I forgot my placard again, no help for the contest. Black and green, and perch pattern were the colors used. Trolled a bit slower than recent reports at 1.5mph

Nice report! That picture of your son holding the walleye is one of the best pictures of the barring pattern that is usually not very visible on walleye. So cool!

Nicely done -- and that's just about the best way to make a young feller famous and happy - and out of trouble....way to go....

Well done, both of ya. Some of my best times were fishing with my kids when they were young.

Congrats! Do you think you weight was on the bottom or suspended?

Yes I tried to stay in contact with bottom as much as possible. It was my first attempt with bottom bouncers, so there were occasionally periods where I wasn't on bottom when the depth changed quick or I wasn't paying close attention. Had the best luck while holding the rod so I could feel the bottom and notice small bites.

Yes he had a blast. Thanks to some of your tips we had a few very enjoyable hours of fishing. Looks like your trip to Strawberry turned out successful too. Good job.
