Rockport Report 12-31
#1
Just got home from Rockport. Fished the state park side down from the last camp ground before the dock. Can not get to the ice from the dock about 10 feet of open water there. Went stright off from the camp ground where there was 16 feet of water last year but only about 7 or 8 feet now. Caught one perch and one trout there then moved towards the boat dock to about 12 feet and caught 8 perch and 15 or so trout. Ice is 5 or 6 inches. Used glow ice fly with waxie and foxie jig. Most were caught on ice fly just off of the bottom maybe 8 inches. Pearch were only 7 inches keep one 10 incher. Trout were form 10 to 15 incnes of which two and the perch are headed for the barbaque tonight. Want to wish everyone a Happy and SAFE New Year. I for one will be home when the clock strikes 12:00 too many on the roads full of 3.2. If you go out please be SAFE and have a D.D. assigned.

H69,

You holding out on me? Details man, details. Here I'll guess, tell me if I'm close. Big rock point just north of the 2nd pull off. 25' of water.

I think I know the rocky point but the water is down . So it was only 18' of water . I left about 1:30 pm but it was good fishing up there . Didn't see the 15" toad perch they where talking about on Doug Miller site . But I'm still looking . LOL [cool] That was the first time I ever ice fished Wanship , and I only fished it twice in the last 20 years .

Sounds great. I've never been on the ice at Rockport. I'm going to have to break down and hit it Friday.
Thanks for the information!

Sorry we missed you, I need to get my glasses on the next time I'm telling someone the color of the truck I'm going fishing in. I can't believe I carried my two way radio out on the ice but forgot to turn it on, I remembered when we came in and it fell out of my pocket when I was taking off my heavy coat. I won't forget next time I promise. WH2

HA69, I did not get wet, just a little spooky.
WH2, I did look for the vehicle you said you'd be in. I was thinking you guy's had not made it yet. Fish with someone headed out on the lake at the same time I was. He was from Minnesota/Michigan area and was quite knowledgable about perch fishin'. I had a good time despite low production. sounds like you guys that went down on the west side did a little better. try and catch ya next time.

It seemed like moving around until we found the fish was what worked for use. We drilled three sets of holes before we found the fish. WH2

There were at least four ice huts on the ice in that area and I would guess around a dozen people. From where we were it looked like some open water by the ramp but people were close to it so it must not be too bad. It cost $5.00 to get into the State park. WH2
