Fished the lower provo today with the new blue halo rod. The rod was great! It casted streamers with ease and nymphs as well. Didnt get a chance to throw any dries I fished from 645 till 1130. The only bad part of the day was only catching one fish the whole time. I really wish I knew what I was doing wrong, I just cant seem to figure it out. I guess Ill just keep plugging away till I figure it out[:/] A guy I talked to said he was catching fish on pmd nymphs and he caught a really nice rainbow as I walked up to the hole.

Stevo, I like to check the bottom of rocks in the stream bed and try to match what I find. Then if I start picking up fish, I'll pump them tummies to see what the fish are keyed on. Ain't no shame in my game. If that doesn't work then it could be your presentation.

I've always wondered about those stomach pumps...do they harm the fish at all?

Not that I know of. I have never had any problems hurting fish. But would like to hear from the in house experts on this site. I would stop doing it if it does hurt them. I don't use it all the time, just when I'm not totally sure what there eating.

Can't imagine they are great on a fish, but just try to do it as humane as possible. They are quite productive.. It is a blood sport.
I don't see the need to do all fish caught, but it can help up the game.

A great tool. Best to think of it as a THROAT pump. You only slide it in to the very front of the throat. You can feel the narrowing. Also remember to only use it on larger fish about 12 in and above.

Here is a video by Brian Chan on using a throat pump.
