This is a fallow up to a post I made 1/3. Found these guys in the same spot I finally pulled out my camera and did the best I could. They were way more wary so I couldn't get very close. Anyway, I still think that whatever you decide they are, it's very unusual for the Web. My opinion, -------, a Trumpeter and 2 immature Tundra.
P.S. In keeping with the rules of a fishing forum, caught a 19 in, whitie (my fist this winter) amongst others. Hopefully, this is enough to keep it on the fishun forum.[  ]

All tundras grey one is a male ??? Ive seen a grudle over the yrs in Utah and Nevada
..But would be happy to hear from the local yocals !!!

I would say trumpeter swans. Grey one is young, they don't get white feathers till after their second winter.

I've shot grundles of them, Trundras that is. Gray one's a Juvie. Male and female of both species are white as adults. Hey Leaky, could you hear them? Tundra's and Trumpeters make completely different sounds. The best I can describe is Tundra's make a higher pitch sound and Trumpeters make a lower pitch sound.

i to have shot my share the best ways to tell is by the bill is the yellow or red patch by the nose hole and the sound is a dead give away also

I think that white semi with the red head could be a great Zara Spook pattern for Wipers - dontcha think? [laugh]

At risk of exposing myself as a bird nerd, the best way to tell Tundra's from Trumpeter's is the shape of the head (which we cannot see clearly in these pic's)... Tundra's have a prominent, rounded forehead while the Trumpeter's head tapers straight even through to the bill.
In pic #2, the bird on the left, unless it's some kind of camera trick, that looks like a Great Blue Heron to me. Unless there's something on the ground behind it that makes the bill look so long.

Don't remember them making any squawking. Of course if they were a mix of Trumpeter and Tundra. they would have sounded different, but again, don't think they squawked, if they did, my old deaf ears didn't hear em. Should have been able to hear em though.
The first encounter several days prior, (no pics.) I got a lot closer and the big guy's bill was all black and straight sloped.

Must have been a weird shadow effect that made the bill look long and pointy on that imm. in the previous pic.
