Just moved to Utah!!!
#1
long time no post!
Well as I've said already, I've moved to Utah. Actually got stationed in Utah at Hill AFB. Anyways it's been a while since I've got the line/fish cat wet so I was wondering if I could get a few tips on locations to fish in the area. thanks a bunch and can't wait to possibly meet some of you folks on here out on the water.

[#0000ff]You are getting here and signing on at a good time. Weather has been wierd and the fishing has not taken off yet this year, but it should be getting good for all species soon. Watch the boards for reports and get ready to rumble.[/#0000ff]

I had to read your post twice, because I too thought cats, but you want to get your Fish Cat wet, correct?
Maybe we can get you up to Strawberry with us...even have a bigger tube for you to try if you would like (with oars which are nice on BIG waters)

I would like to try Mantua myself along with Willard, so give a shout.

What type of fishing do you enjoy?

Welcome to Utah. We will definitely have to get out some time. I haven't really gone for cats but I am willing to fish for anything at this point. Depending on what your fishing for you have plenty of oportunity around you. Definitely search through the Utah archives. Plenty of good information stored away. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks everyone for the tips! I was referring to my tube (fish cat) but I do love fishing for catfish. Coming from Texas, that was a lot of the fishing I did.

Willard Bay seems to be the closest and most productive at least by TubeDude, so when the weather figures things out I'll be trying that out first.

now it's time to look up old reports to see what was catching what up here. Compared to down south.

I'm chiming in late here...just got back from Seattle. As a fellow Texan transplanted into Utah I think you'll find that the species you are familiar with behave similarly up here. The main difference that I find is that spawning times are shifted later here. That is no surprise because it takes longer for the water temps to get where they need to be for fishies to get frisky. The catfishing is great at Utah Lake. I've never fished Willard but I'm planning on a trip next month for crappie. Willard seems to have some of the bigger crappie as they are shad-fed and healthy. This is a great forum with lots of folks willing to help out. Enjoy your stay.

[cool][#0000ff]I'm sending you a PDF writeup on Utah Lake Catfishing that has maps and info that will probably help you.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Lots of good spots around the lake but they change from month to month as the seasons progress.[/#0000ff]

I see that TubeDude has hooked you up with his Utah Lake writeup on catfish. Read it, learn it, love it, use it. There is fantastic fishing for kitties May-July and you can still catch them afterwards but maybe not as fast and furious as you would like but they can still be caught. I see from your sig that your personal best is a catfish between eight and nine pounds. Be ready to change that. There are some huge catfish in Utah Lake and when you catch one from a tube, you'll be in for a ride! I don't consider myself to be a great angler but I am persistent. Here are a few example kitties from Utah Lake (others have caught waaaaaaaaaay bigger).

[cool][#0000ff]Any time from about mid May on you can work the edges of the shoreline reeds with a big bugger or leech...black, brown, purple or white. When the water is clean and green and the fish are in you will get an accute case of the "bends"...on your rod.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You can also pick up walleyes, largemouths and white bass on the same lures in the same place.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]That whole shoreline between Lindon and American Fork Boat Harbor is one big kitty condo.[/#0000ff]
