After watching the hooked on utah episode and reading some of the debate on here about Birch Creek and the Tigers and all that... Someone help me understand why they arent putting tigers in Strawberry either instead of rainbows or with rainbows??? There obviously wouldnt be any cross contamination. They grow super fast and they are very aggressive. They would handle the chub population probably better then rainbows and cutts combined. Talk about a Trophy Tiger fishery. All that forage for them to get huge. Does anyone have any thoughts???

i heard some lunacy about pike being put into strawberry a while back from my cousin, which is stupid and very likely untrue. but tigers being unable to reproduce and all, would help shrink the chub population alot, i think. Of course i dont work for the Utah DNR either. i heard from a more reliable source that Utah was having trouble getting new tigers for pineview. something about a outbreak of disease in a hatchery back east where they were getting them from. i share your vision for tigers in strawberry, but i dont see the fish cops letting loose tigers in there. Strawberry is one of the best cutthroat fisheries in the world! although i dont care for catching trout much that lake is special. its probably only a matter of time before some idiot takes it on himself to start introducing foreign fish to it. good idea though.

Good point on the Scofield.
I would love to see some trophy Tigers...got to be a reason why. I would love to see Kamloop in Strawberry. Fast, Big and mean!!!!

I wonder why Idaho stocks so many Kamloops and Utah doesn't. They're so much better. I was catching little 10-14" Kamloops yesterday and they were nuts. One of them jumped 2 feet out of the water repeatedly and then doubled my rod in half. It fought like a trout twice it's size. I know they tried them in Mantua and when the perch showed up I never heard another word about them. Lame.

Well IMHO I thought the chubs were very under control on Strawberry. That is why the cuts have seamed to have stopped around 18-20 inch size and not getting much bigger.

The Chub to me, is staying at a fair level. As far as the size of cutts, they will eat their own, so that isn't why the size. The drought has allot to do with size however.
The Kams at Mantua were flat out planted the wrong year. That was the year it was very warm for a long time. There were non belly up so, still not sure what happened there, but water was definitely too warm being as shallow as it is.
Strawberry would have been the perfect choice, although they would have to be sterile as to not breed with the Cutts.
The ones at Idaho are a strain, no purebreds.

It's too bad that they didn't at least try planting them in another reservoir. I guess it doesn't really matter to me anymore since I live closer to Idaho waters than the Utah waters, but it just seems odd. Purebred or not, they're hard fighting little footballs and I'm glad to have them nearby.
