And we won't be holding their gills like that, or killing any either! [unimpressed] We WILL get some bites though. [

6 lb test and ultra-light? No way ... really?

I'll bet with that light of tackle, it must have taken an awful long time to wear him down and get him on the ice! That is just amazing. Or am I just a sucker for partially believing it? It seems to me that a fish that big and strong could simply decide to leave town and not even know he was hooked on anything 6 lb. But then again, I seldom fish with ultra light gear so what do I know.[:/] Gorgeous fish! [signature]

Take a deep breath. It will be ok. The sun will still come up in the morning. Please let people post pics without the negative comments from the same people over and over. We know your opinion on how to hold 20-30+ year old fish and releasing it.Oh God do we know.[crazy]

Nice fish and nice photo. I hope the negative remarks doesn't stop you from posting more (like it has several other people) [signature]

I'd be pretty protective of my line of work too.

Let's say for instance I build jet engines for a living and everyone quit flying. My standard of living would lower significantly. Now lets say I begged for money on the street corner, and everyone took away the street corners. You'd be upset, right? [signature]

Still . . . if we aren't here to be stewards of our fish and wildlife and seek to teach better behavior then what is really the point of having a fishing site. A bragging board would be a really

As far as 6lb line...I caught the biggest fish of my life on 6lb fluoro on a 6 weight fly rod. But I didn't have ICE to shred the line either. Giving benefit of doubt...he kept the Biggest Fish he has ever caught[ ][signature]

I was there fishing near the guy who caught it and it was very light tackle for this fish and it was 6lb test line. He honestly had this fish on the ice in under 7 minutes I was blown away myself.

As I get older and maybe a little wiser I am starting to question why people keep big fish like that to eat or mount on the wall.I have never caught a fish that size and hope to sometime in my lifetime.Personaly I would like to see fish like that released to fight another day, especialy the one that was caught at fishlake a few weeks back.It takes a long time for Macks to grow that big and its a shame to see them kept.Take a pic ad measurment and have a casting done if you want it on the wall.I think they look better then the real thing anyway. If you want to keep fish to eat then keep the smaller ones they taste tons better.

This is my opinion right or wrong the guy didnt break any laws so it was legal to keep,I would have relased it...Nice Fish! [signature]

Here we go again. Blah, blah, blah! This topic of catch and release is old as hell. Yes, I agree and practice it myself but can we just enjoy the pics without the typical Utard style debate?

Sometimes you hook one that just doesn't want to fight back for whatever reason. Also, if he had maximum pressure on that fish with a good 6lb. line, 7 minutes doesn't seem too long to me. I find that part believable.

As to the "reader" so worked up about my sentence that I was dened, don't hold fish by the gills, or kill them on my boat: Well, all is fine with this thread it seemed, except for one person getting their feathers ruffled. If ya don't like what's being written, don't read it. Turn it off. Just go fishing instead. Don't tell anyone anything, and don't read about it. Don't post pictures. As you said, the sun will still rise in the morning without anyone needing to see any fish pictures.Flippinstick: We'll be using 12 in June, and some will be netted in 3-4 minutes, and (hopefully) some will take 10-15, and that's with me moving to keep the boat directly over the fish to reduce the fight time to as short as possible. I do this because the shorter the fight, the better chance of survival, and the less stress on the fish. Besides, that leaves us more time to drop back down and get the next one! [signature]

		Hey Mtnman,

This whole thread was fine until you got on here and blew it all out of the water. Practice what you preach and leave it alone. If you dont like what there saying, just go to the next thread. Months back many folks on here would have jumped all over this, myself included, but everyone has pretty much left it alone. I would hope that you would do the same. [signature] |
