Im not an expert at all.. but from pictures on the web the tail on this mystery fish looks too straight to be a gila...

I reckon the tail was just scalped when the pix was scanned in, just like with the first fish.

I'd go with Gila on this one as well.

Sometimes it works out that way, Mac. I gave a presentation once where the booking club also arranged for me to speak to two other clubs. Only way to schedule it was to stay overnight, and fish with some of those club members on their home waters.

The very worst instance was the client meeting I had in Livingston. Client sent me a key to her place, there, so I could come in three days early and prepare for the meeting. Uh, huh. Spent a lot of that prep time on the Yellowstone.

But I'm not really a flyfishing expert, Mac. Ain't written a book about it.

Having gone through the book publishing thing twice, I reckon I'll stick to writing for magazines and my website.

If I ever harbored a desire to do a flyfishing book it would be a collection of my articles in Warm Water Flyfishing. Unfortunately, that magzine didn't last long enough for the number of articles to add up, even with one in every issue. Had it lasted another two years, a book might have been a real possibility.

To be honest with you, Mac, it's really a chicken and egg situation. Do I write about outdoor adventures because I'm experienced, or am I experienced because I write about outdoor adventure?

There's more than a subtle difference there.

Do you know why there is so much poor outdoor coverage out there? It's because the majority of outdoor writers are sportsmen or write, whereas I'm a writer who happens to fish and hunt and hike.

So, maybe a particular writer really knows his subject. But if he or she can't put five consecutive words together, it doesn't count for much.

My experiences mostly result from my need, as a writer/reporter, to know what I'm talking about first hand. There are people who write, for instance, about salmon fishing in the Great Lakes who have never experienced it. I can't begin to relate to that approach.

Trust me, if I did anything else for a living, I'd get to fish far off places with guides and outfitters as rarely as most people.
