green river

Does anybody now how the green is doing? I might be going there in a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure what to use or where to go this time of year.

Haven't been for a few weeks but I've got a fair bit of experience on the Green and I don't think I've seen it bad. The only problem I've really had is when it's blowing so hard you can't get a good presentation with your fly. In May I've done very well with #18-20 midge nymphs and griffiths knats, #16-24 scuds, at times pheasant tails work well. If you aren't going with the fly rod then chuck #5-9 Rapala minnows in perch, gold, rainbow. #2-4 vibrax spinners work well too in silver, brass, black. I've seen Jakes Spinalures do well and black and brown marabou jigs 1/4 oz too. The fish were in great shape in April when I was there, hope you have a great time.

Where on the Green were you talking about ? There is only 300 miles or more of river to fish .

I'm not sure whether to fish just at little hole, or two start at the dam and raft down to little hole. But probably one of the two.

Fishnate has some good info . I haven't fished that area in about 5 years but it has always been good then . In fact it's always good for fishing . Last time I was there I didn't even drag out the fly rod but slayed them with jigs . Cicadas will be out . Sometimes the fish will bump your Cicada fly to check to see if it's real or not so don't set the hook to soon . I would try some night fishing , it can be good with no moon out . just fish bigger lures or big wetflies slowly . Black Lagoon is one of my favorite spots for this but use flashlight only to unhook fish and never shine on water . If I'm there I can scare the @*@$ out of people that use flashlights . Just kidding but I have done this !!!!! LOL tight lines

For what its worth, I've both floated an fished from shore. I've never found a huge advantage in floating the river. Its pricey for guide service on the boat or you/your partner has to mess with the boat. It it a beautiful float and does get you away from the shore crowd but the "boat hatch" can be more aggrevating at times. The fish aren't much different throughout the float. I like to wade both below the dam and up from Little Hole and sight fish. Find a big feeder and nail him. The Green is a great place to learn fish behavior toward lures. HA69 was right about the fish reaction to large terrestrials, it's wierd to have a fish come up and bump or even open it's mouth and float under the fly for a foot or two before accepting or rejecting, a huge test of nerves but fun!
