Local Catfish Anglers Gathering (fish fry) Date Set!!
#1
[Image: fish-on.gif]I would like to have everyones input on doing a BFT Catfish tourney at Utah Lake either March 29th or April 12th. We could make it a Local (limit Catch and release type Tourney for fun. Maybe get with some local vendors to donate prizes, etc.
We could have a vote on where to launch from. We could do a 2 man team format. Limit it to boaters and tubers only, or leave it open to everyone 16 yrs of age and older unless accompanied by an adult. Just want to hear responses on ideas.
I am open, and would like to hear the ideas that would best suit everyone.
Maybe even set it up to have a fish fry after the tourney, who knows.

Sounds like fun. If you're going to catfish from a tube I would think that Lincoln Beach or Lindon would be the best places to launch.

You want to have it before the new laws go in...

One of the laws is any waters you have a tournament on will cost $150.00 no mater how small, this is what the bass clubs are trying to fight now and if you have over 50 people its much much more...

You can say goodby to the Striper tournament as well unless you pay up to $700.00 just to put it on is what I was told...

I am game for it, but if you do limit it to boaters, may I suggest having some sort of sign up for those who don't have access to a boat and is looking for a partner who does or for those with a boat that is looing for a partner.

Otherwise, I think it would be fun.

For now, I plan on going to a demolition derby on the 29th...IF they ever tell me where/when I can buy tickets. So until further notice, April 12th would be best for me.

And is this $150 fee (or however much it is) per person, or just for the whole group? If I have to pay that, I can't come at all Sad

I'd have to pair up with somebody, since I don't own a boat.

The afterwards fry party sounds nifty! I'd bring cookin' stuff, to make up for having to share a boat Wink

I'll be fishing in Texas March 29th so April 12th sounds good to me. Room on my boat Dawn if this happens. Maybe if it's a fun get-together instead of a tournament we won't have to pay the fees??? As long as everyone pays their entry to the park we all clean up after ourselves we're just one big family having a good time [Wink], right?

[cool][#0000ff]I won't fish a "tournament" but I might show up if it is just a "gathering"...and tube it.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]We have had a couple of those before at Lincoln Beach. We can reserve the covered pavillion for $50. Lots of tables and a couple of BBQ grills available. Running water and nice heated restrooms. Also plenty of parking and a fish cleaning station, for those who have never been there before.[/#0000ff]

Pat, you left out the main attraction -- massive swarms of various flying insects to keep one entertained and for extra spices in whatever is being cooked.[pirate]

April 12th works. And to add, I don't want to charge for the tourney!! I want to leave it open to everyone, unless we vote to keep it to boaters only, thats fine too. But I would nee to make a separate list of those who don't have a boat, want to partner up and be in the tourney. We should try to keep those who are partnering up, that are inexperienced, with those that are experienced. Lets try and make it a fun, learning experience, as well as giving donated awards and drawings for the winner's.
We will probably do awards on most weight overall, most weight overall on catch and release, and smallest fish (can't leave this one out) it gets fun. One tourney I was in, a gal brought in a cat in a cup.
I am open to all ideas, and need a few volunteers to help out with weigh-in, tracking, cooking, etc.
Next... TD, why would you not be in the tourney?

[cool][#0000ff]I used to fish competitively, but when it got to be more hassle than fun...I quit.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I fish for solitude and fun. I do fish with a lot of other BFTers and we have numerous "Kitty Floatillas" throughout the year. But, very informal and no awards. Just the fun of getting together and sharing good times on the water.[/#0000ff]

Sure sounds fun and I'd love to attend but I've got to shoot a turkey on the 12th. I'll be there next time.

That's why my dad doesn't like fishing anymore. He says all the rules and regulations are more bother than it's worth.

If it is an official tourney, the only prize I'd win is the smallest fish LOL I'm too much a little weakling to reel in anything over 10 pounds or so, anyway!

If there's a list of supplies we'll need, I could probably use that as my donation (I'm poor... stupid government thinks I can live off $500 a month!). Such as, I could get soda/drinks for it, since Wal-Mart has 2 liters for 60 cents.

Glee! Now I'm all rarin' to go!

This kitty gathering sounds good but to me a get together would be better with just bragging rights for the adults and maybe some prizes for the kids. A fish fry to follow like last years get together. April would be great because like pat said the insects would be non existent.[Image: fish-on.gif]

[cool][#0000ff]Don't you fret none about having the necessities for a BFT fishin' thang. We're a bunch of caring and sharing anglers who will make sure you have what you need. There should be someone from your area coming down that can provide transportation. And, between the extra gear TubeBabe and I have there are likely others who can make sure you are properly rigged up too. No need to blow your budget on tackle if you don't need to.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In fact, if you want to learn how to float tube, we could pick you up on our way to Willard some time and get you floatin' and fishin' in no time. We have extra tubes, fins, etc. And, if Willard is going to stay at low levels again this year, it is ideal for tubing, since boating is limited.[/#0000ff]

I'm all for this shindig. It's been almost 2 years since I broke out the catfishin gear and I been itchin somethin fierce. If we're going to be donating prizes and such, I'm in for some bumper stickers and/or adult/kids clothing.[Wink]

I'll be in Kansas from March 20th - 24th so I'm good for either date. I don't have a boat, so if thre's somebody who's willing to let this rusty ol fisherman come aboard, I'll bring drinks.

[cool][#0000ff]You should be able to "hook up" with a boater...if you are willing to split expenses and not catch all the fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We also have some good spots for "bank tanglin" and a lot of us fish from tubes or toons.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the meantime, how about reducing the size of your avatar? It is great but WAAAAAAY to big. I have attached a resized one for you.[/#0000ff]
