Start the new year off with a Winter Wonder Weekend at North Bend State Park near Cairo, West Virginia. The fun is scheduled for January 18-20. The weekend will include nature programs, hikes, games, contests, and a "Bonnie and Clyde" party. The outdoor winter sports include sleigh rides, a snowman building contest and other old time activities (weather permitting).
The Friday evening program will be presented by Bill Beatty, naturalist and photographer. The title of his program is "Our Amazing Birds...including a few of Bonnie and Clyde's favorites." Beatty travels extensively, teaching nature and photography and is the author of three books and numerous magazine articles. He will also be leading a hike on Saturday.
You may bring a cake decorated with a "Bonnie and Clyde" theme and perhaps win a prize in three categories of most creative, most original and best theme. Cakes will be used for the Saturday evening cake walk.
If you're a crafty person, you are invited to bring one or more crafts you have made to exhibit and share throughout the weekend. You may sell your crafts if you wish.
Reservations for rooms, cabins and meals can be made by calling Emily Fleming, Assistant to the DNR Director, at (304) 558-2754. Reservations will be honored on a first-come basis, and the registration deadline is January 11, 2008. The cost is $120 per person (double occupancy) or $164 (single occupancy). This includes two nights' lodging in either the lodge or a cabin, five delicious meals, registration fee which includes a craft, door prizes and all weekend activities. Lodging for children age 12 and younger is free.
