The fishermen on this board Float Tube all time, as I do. I've probably been kicked out of ten or twelve places. Some are areas in lakes that allow float tubing, some just plain unfriendly. [mad] So this is my list of Places the we should boycott.
1. Redondo Harbor. Harbor Patrol derided my Tube and told me to" get my toy out of his bay"!
2. The Federal Channel in Dana Point. Harbor Patrol yelled at me..." You can't be there, that's the Federal Channel, ..You can't fish the Federal Channel!"..Note: I was on a big Leopard Shark and he was towing me down the Federal Channel
This Channel is the one that runs along the Long Jetty.
3. Puddingstone lake. Not a very big lake. Can only fish the area right near the southwest side of the dam and Sailboat cove. Lifeguard yells " Hey what are you doing???You can't fish here! You gotta fish over there on the other side of the lake! And you'll have to walk back!" Screw him I kicked back. Really pissed him off.
3.Cuyamaca in San Diego. Tried to get a group trip up on this board. They have a plea out to come up there and fish to help out the locals, ravaged by the fire. NO FLOAT TUBING
4. DVL. Very 'Green". Four Stroke or electric powered only. Very clean...Water Supply...Stripers, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Big Trout. No Float Tubing!
5. Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Carlsbad CA. Warm Water from Power Plant. Sheltered set of Three Lagoons. Calm, Ideal! Halibut, Spotfin Croaker, Yellowfin Croaker, White Seabass....No Float Tubing Allowed.
6.Lake Nacimiento. Great fishing for Bass, both Smallmouth , Largemouth and Spots. Crappie and Turbo Crappie(White Bass)NO, No NO FLOAT TUBING!
7.Lake Hesperia. Big Trout, Giant Catfish, STURGEON! NO Tubing...
8.Lake Poway. Beautiful Park Setting. Rocks and clear water. Giant Bass, Large Trout, Monster Redears and Bluegill. Not a Chance for us Float Tubers.
Thanks you for the myriad of locations that allow us to fish free, noiseless, and unfettered. Imagine a free float tubing world! Catch and release, so my kids can catch your fish when they grow up.[ ] I'm interested in your take on this and perhaps we can build a list of places we are not welcome. Save a wasted trip or two at least.

...thanks for the list.. I was pissed on the Cuyamaca thing.. but here is one to add..
Lake Dixon in Escondido.. it is a lake about the size of Laguna Niquel and you have to rent boats from them. No personal water craft of any kind including float tubes.
I talked to one of the rangers there and asked why they dont allow float tubing or personal water craft. He said the lake was too small. I asked him why, if the lake is to small, they have boats for rent. He glared at me and walked away. Now that sucks!!

[black]With the exception of regulations that dictate that waders must be worn while tubing, because the waters are a community water supply, I have never heard of any body of water that allows boats that will not allow tubes.[/black]

Do you think that it could be that all of those listed are in California? (land of fruits, nuts, and community kiddy ponds).

I can only answer that question about the two bodies of water that I fish the most. Both are water supplies. Lake Wohlford in Valley Center area, before the outbreak of a mollusk problem, allowed boats to be launched as well as tuebs, toons, kayaks, and wading from shore with a minimal of hip waders on.
Lake Dixon, the lake in question, will rent you a row boat, a boat with and electric motor on it, and family style paddle boats. They do not allow any onther water craft in the water nor do they allow any type of wading even with waders on.
Like you, I am surprised with Dixon since they have boats in the water. It is probably a local city thing where they want to make money by renting instead of charging a much lower boat launch fee, but that is a guess on my part. I have seen nothing in writing that supports my "theory".

Amen Brother Macfly, don't you think they would make more money by charging us to launch? How about just coming to their city and buying coffee, gas and breakfast and lunch, and buying tackle. No improvements necessary on their part just charge us up the fin.[blush] Free us!

Upper Castaic Lake. Huge Stripers and Largemouth prowling the dam eating trout. Not for us though.[ ]

amen and halleluia to that brother bendopolo..
Wohlford charges five bucks to launch a tube or toon.. and I think it is 25 bucks for one of their boats all day.. seems to me money is to be had if you use your head [mad]..
Wohlford also has an excellent hole in the wall diner where you could always have a bit to eat after a day of fishing... so no matter what .. as brother TN2 likes to say, everyone has a bite on a day of fishing... [ ]

many reservoirs or supply lakes throughout the country allow row/electric boats which have to be left on site - chained to a tree or whatever. The purpose is to stop the introduction or spreading of disease. Laws vary from place to place.
In NY most reservoirs or supply water are strictly row boat only.

Wohlford should have been on my original list. They only have a certain small area that you can Tube.

.. as far as I know they specify where you can cross and a maximum distance from shore.. that does leave the deeper center open for boat passage... Id say it may deserve a "dishonorable" mention but not main list.. [ ]

[cool][#0000ff]I knew there was a good reason why I moved out of California. Now I have several more why I shouldn't move back. I do miss the salt though. Our Salt Lake sucks. The only "catchable" species are small brine shrimp. They don't make tackle small enough to go after those...unless you consider a small net.[/#0000ff]

Here is the real deal in California. If you could catch them on a size 28 hook(the smallest I know of) your limit would be 36 crustations in possession. Same as Sand Crabs. I can fit 36 small sand crabs in my hand. We use them four or five at a time when they are this small. I had an F&G guy make me dump my bucket of them out last year. Can you imagine how many you would need of these to get a meal? I guess we would have to ask a whale.

[cool][#0000ff]I have fished all over the country and I just have to shake my head and wonder at some of the wacko regulations anglers have to deal with.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]You have your problems with crustaceans. Over here in Utah we cannot use live minnows...and if we catch crawdads we have to kill them before we leave the water...no taking them home to kill in the pot. Also, we can't use corn for bait. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Oh yeah, on some bass lakes the limit is six, but you can't keep anything OVER 12 inches. And with yellow perch, some of the worst lakes have limits of 50, and the best lakes have limits of 20. One of the lakes that has been closed to perch for several years, and is overpopulated with stunting fish, the limit is 10...and you have to keep the first 10 you catch...no culling for size.[/#0000ff]

[ ][green] Diamond Valley Lake is another one that permits boats but and I quote:[/green]
[green] "NO swimming, personal watercraft, water skiing, float tubes or body contact of any kind is allowed."[/green]
[green] Go figure.

No water contact with waders on. Come on, I've been told its for my own safety. Stay near the shore they say. I've paddled my tube all over the ocean. Outside the kelp lines up North. Sort of a White Shark Zara Spook. Following the Pipe Out side of the Santa Ana River. Salt Creek , a great reef bite. Can't Tube DVL. Unbelievable! Unforgivable.. Can't we recall some politician over this. In Southern California there are way more lakes you can't fish than lakes you can. Public water. We pay to maintain them. Thank you Governor for saving us from our wanton selves. The water we can fish costs more and more. $10 dollars here for entry, $ 8 there for parking. The rest of the country, and a few of you chimed in, can fish where ever and when ever they want. Something about letting your people feed themselves I imagine. Unless that bit of water is in somebody's front yard you can almost always gain access, just by asking. How did we let this slip by out here in Commie-nifornia. Even though the Water Districts are public, the water is private or stupidly regulated. ( No Float Tubes, etc) In my general neighborhood and Dryrods too, there are many lakes. And outside of those lakes are the ones I can Tube. Katella Pond, Siphon Res, Rattlesnake Res, Oso Res,Peters Canyon Res, Ball Road pit,Noel Ranch Res, Coto, Church Pond, North and South Woodbridge Lakes, Lake Forrest. Those are off the top of my head, there may be more. Can't fish them at all. Got to pay at Irvine Lake, Corona, Laguna Niguel, and it isn't much cheaper for Puddingstone or Perris. Or Castaic Afterbay or Pyramid.
We should be able to fish our waters, safely, quietly, and thoroughly in whatever contraption we deem acceptable , just like the rest of mankind all through history. Public money builds the Marinas, Launch ramps, Docks. Why charge us more to use them. No wonder Johnny sits home on his Video game, he can't afford to go to the park...

[green] [ ]Don't you know that Leftifornia needs all that money to take care of all those people that don't want to work. It is much easier to collect welfare & other subsidies than cut a lawns for $ 7.00/hr. Some people have figured out how to do both.[/green]

It is rather odd that you mentioned Puddingstone.
I was there a couple of months ago. Since they had some silly Jazz festival (not the UT Jazz), they wouldn't allow us to launch tubes from the good side of the lake by the docks and the sail boat cove.
Instead, we were diverted to the opposite side of the lake to the boat ramp. Since it was a non motorized boat, they decided not to charge us a launch fee. Only the entrance fee to park.
Boats puttered all around us out of curiosity and even the life guards were amused. We caught only 4 Bass in 5 hours (fishing blind). We also nailed a few small slabs.
We were also not allowed to leave a certain perimeter to go fish some of the better structure. Go figure.[crazy]
