Watermaster Kodiak vs. Creek ODC 1018

Hello,

I am new on this board (from the Netherlands).

I currently use a Watermaster Kodiak for about 2 years now and very much like its design, although it is not so fast as most pontoonboats, to me it feels more stable.

For speed I am thinking of adding a real pontoon like the ODC 1018, but I am in doubt of its stability compared to the Kodiak.

What do you prefer and why.....

Any advise is welcome.

[#0000ff]I have not personally used the Watermaster rafts, but they are made in Montana, here in the USA and have a good reputation, especially among anglers that use them in streams and rivers.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]They have a big "footprint" on the water, which does help make them very stable. However, it also adds to the "drag" in the water and means that you have to row and kick harder to move them across the water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The ODC pontoon line, from the Creek Company, is also a good value. The pontoons ride higher on the water and are easier to propel, with less effort. However, that also means that they are more subject to being blown around by breezes. They are difficult to control, without an anchor, whenever the wind comes up.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The ODC 1018, pictured below, has 10 foot pontoons, which exceeds the 9 foot requirements for putting pontoons on most rivers in most states in our country. It is a large and waterworthy craft.[/#0000ff]


[#0000ff]Pontoon craft in general are plenty stable. If stability is your only concern, that is not a problem. Many fishermen in the US use pontoons for running fast rivers and they handle rough water very well.[/#0000ff]
