Berry... twice as nice

I had such a good time at strawberry last week that I went again this past weekend with my boy.  My son and I lost count around 25 fish, they are hungry and aggressive now.  My son caught a lot of his fish on a blue/silver cast master but we also caught most fish on minnows under a bobber and they only seemed interested when the bait had some movement, so we'd slow roll the bubble back and this triggered bites.  

I also had a heartbreaker... I latched into a huge, football shaped, beautifully colored up rainbow that easily topped 20", landed it... and right as I had it up for a picture in my hands, it flipped and went back into the water.... so unfortunately have no pic of it, but it was gorgeous.  Saw schools of red kokanee swimming by the whole time, that was cool. 

As long as this keeps up, Ill be up there a few more times before the ice sets in.  These are a few we took pics of...

Looks like you guys had a great day. How far offshore were the kokes, from where you were fishing? Kind of surprising they aren't in the streams, spawning.

had a great time, and always good to get out with the busy adult kids when we can do it.  The kokes were right off the dam, 5-10 feet out, just swimming back and forth all day in schools of about 15-20.  We tried seeing if they'd bite anything but they weren't interested in anything but procreation I assume.

A number of year ago, Liketrolling and I fished that area, in his boat, before the season shut down and they were doing the same thing but they were even jumping out of the water. Cool to see but bummer we could not get them to bite. That was in Sept, that is why I was surprised they had not spawned yet but I guess different groups spawn at different times and maybe it's just the way it has gone this year.
