Ira and I got up to PV again yesterday, hoping that the day before the storm might make for better catching and we were right, it was our best trip out of our last three there. Years ago we found the crappie off the West end of Cemetery point, so we started there, lots of good marks but they just were not interested, so we continued to troll East. We finally started to catch fish, when we got into 36 fow and continued to catch them, all the way to 20 fow, where we turned around after seeing the best marks in 25 to 35 fow. The action was so fast that we never got a break until we left at 1pm, I'm sure we caught over 50 perch and crappie but we never counted them. I did bring home 9 crappie that were 11 to 12", the biggest perch were 9". The bonus fish was a 42" tiger musky, that Ira caught on a tiny crappie crank. Water temps were down to 60 degrees yesterday. It was a little breezy and cloudy when we first got there but cleared up and calmed down later in the morning. We tried deeper early but once we got into the big schools, 20 ft was the magic depth. It was one of those days where time flew by and it was time to leave before we knew it but to be honest we had just about all the fun we could stand by then. Getting up and sitting down gets to me after that much time, it would have been easier just to stay standing the whole time. It sure was fun to get away on such a nice Fall day. Not one skier or any other boats on the water, while we were there.

I keep telling Vi how much fun we could have up there if we could find the crappie.
It's about a two hour run for me to get up there; if I drive up there in the morning and fish all day I don't have it in me to drive back home. Old age sucks!
Thanks for the report I enjoy the read.

Is there a dock of any use at Anderson Cove? What is the current fee for using the ramp there? Thanks, rj

Thanks, rj Thanks for the comment Richard, hope you and Vi are able to get up here, it could be worth the trip but I totally get it about making those long trips. Yes, there is a dock, it's in two ft of water from below my transducer. I'll send you a PM about the fees for launching.

Thanks, we think we had two more on, that were grabbing the fish as we reeled them in but getting even one in, was amazing. Funny thing was I told Ira last week, that I would not be surprised if we caught one. There was a tag number on that musky with a phone number, so I called it and got some info about the TM Ira caught, from the biologist and some more info about the TM program up there.

There is one courteous dock that is mostly out of the water with about 8 feet into the water in 2-3 feet of water max . Only the end of the dock is useful. The 2 times that I have been there lately, I have only placed a $13 check in the envelope. No problems encountered. Troll jigs on a drop shot rig at slow speed. 0.5-01.0 mph bouncing it off the bottom in 15-19 fow.
Good fishing to all. Hue

This is really cool, I would have never thought about trolling for crappies. Do you use a downrigger to stay on them? Or just weights? Congrats on the great bonus fish too, that's a fish of a lifetime!

Ira and I have been using this method, trolling for crappie for many years, even at Willard, when the water is clear. Yes, we were using my 4# DR balls, with 20 to 30' setbacks. As I have mentioned before, we learned this method of catching crappie at PV using DR's from another BFT member. Nice way to spend a Fall day and we have caught several TM either trolling or jigging at PV, always fun to get that bonus fish. We haven't caught any this year but we have caught crappie there that were 14", in the past.
