Just something for all you fellow fishermen to watch out for. The several times I've launched at the south marina I've been asking myself why the park managers or whoever it is that maintains the launch area doesn't get the ramps cleaned up. The amount of debris that has washed up on the boat ramps is crazy, not just wood but trash as well. I was there yesterday and when I launched on the south end ramp I noticed 2 old used syringes laying in the piles of debris so I'm thinking that should be a watch for all to be careful, especially those with little kids running around. I did pick them up and disposed of them but who knows what else could be lurking out there.

Hi, I agree 100 %. I noticed the same mess. I didn’t see the syringes. The next time there I plan to clean those ramps up. I’ve done it before, I’ll do it again.

Thanks for the effort at WB South. Not seen syringes before, but have packed out a Wal-Mart bags worth of beer cans, empty worm tubs, other various articles left by careless anglers and water craft users.
Did you notice if the fish cleaning station was still functioning ?

I sent an e-mail to the park manager over 2 years ago in regards to the short bollards at the top of the boat ramp. The bollards originally had signs cemented in them that were high enough to be seen while backing down the ramp. I recommended to the manager that a simple band clamp with a small flag on top would solve the problem. The response I received stated that they were aware of the issue and would take care of it. I noticed yesterday that the bollards are now leaning with paint from vehicles and boat trailers on them. It appears no one is interested in doing anything about it. Good luck on getting the trash cleaned up.

Somebody who needs Dedicated Hunter hours could go out there and weld a metal marker Pole to the bollards and get credit for it.
Anyone?

[#0000FF]The fish cleaning station at the south marina is a much better unit than the one at the north. And it gets better maintenance from the camp host too. I have never had a problem at the south marina but about half the time I hit the one north it is inoperable or only barely functional. Very weak motor.

One would think the State Park could take this on an get it fixed! The bollards have no purpose and need be removed, only one has a sign still on it. Why should the public pay an entrance fee and then have to do repairs to the boat ramp?

I'm with you ZB, I think I will go out there with some gear and clean it up myself. If anyone wants to join me I'm gonna head out there today around noon.

I cant explain why they are there, I can only help suggest a fix.
Sometimes things are just they way they are and us users have to step in.....

As was mentioned the cleaning station is working fine and they even got the electric power outlets working on the station. The biggest difference between the cleaning station at the North and South marina is the size of the drain. When they were installing it, I talked to the guys doing the work and they said the new one has a 3" drain shoot(SP?) or maybe it was a 5" shoot but either way this one is quite an upgrade from the one at the North end. They also said there was a plan in the works to do the one at the North end but who knows when.

Well my attempt to go clean the south marina ramps was botched. When I arrived at the entrance there was people lined up to launch all the way out to the main road and they weren’t letting anyone in. I waited for fifteen minutes and here come a DNR truck with lights and sirens on, then a fire medic and a sheriff and an ambulance, oh no. So I managed to get turned around and came home. Guess it was just a bad idea to go on a weekend but that’s ok. I’ll pick another day, probably Monday cause there shouldn’t be a lot of traffic.

Good try. It is kind of crazy on the weekend. I’ll give it a go on Monday, one of the pleasures of being retired. I would hate to see someone get stabbed with one of those needles and get sick.

I made it out this morning at 06:45 and was able to get all the ramps cleaned up. Found another syringe floating just along the edge of the middle ramp again, that makes 3 syringes in four days that I've found out there. The place looks really nice now and I feel a lot better knowing it's done. I picked up 8 1/2 wheelbarrows full of debris and trash, what a beautiful morning to be out there.
I also found a key lying on the ground and posted a picture of it, if it belongs to anyone I still have it to be claimed.

Thank you for your service! Makes you fell good I know.
It pisses me off that people are such pigs and think someone else should pick up their garbage. I am amazed the places I find trash when out in the woods. But then again, I guess one can't carry around a used syringe can they....?

This is funny but three years ago I donated to the junk at the south marina. While getting out of my boat I bent over to far and out of my shirt pocket dropped my cell phone.😦
It's still there did you find it? Oh well😒.

Wow! Thanks so much. I’ll swing by tomorrow either fishing or not, see if anything else shows up. Let’s keep each other informed on the status of the mess and perhaps we can keep it clean. Happy Father’s Day to Fathers
