I am not asking for secret locations. I am looking for a beautiful shaded campsite that my wife will enjoy that also has great fishing.
I finally got my wife excited to go camping but I really don't know where to go. I looked at the green river and the snake river and a few lakes but I wanted to reach out here to see if any of you could expand my horizon on new fun locations for my family would love.

I think it might help if you could give more specifics. Do you want lakes or rivers? Are you looking to catch numbers of fish of modest size or trophies? What is your distance limit? Etc.

One place I can think of is Ferron Reservoir in the Manti-LaSal Forest. It has nice shady campsites and I have it on good authority that fishing is quite good these days. But double check with the Forest Service to see what they have.
It's near Gunnison, 140 miles from Riverton and 2:57 to get there.

I am the kind of fisherman who spends most of his time on a shoreline and comes home empty handed but I still find it enjoyable to sit and admire the wildlife.
My only requirements are nothing further than 4 hours away, a lake is probably preferred. My wife wants a nice shaded campsite and somewhat flat terrain for my 2 year old daughter to play and explore.
I would love to catch any type of fish while I am there, My wife purchased me a float tube so I thought it might be fun to give that a try.

Another possibility is Mill Hollow Reservoir. Search the internet for lots of pictures and info. It is between Woodland and Hannah.

There are many campsites along he mirror lake highway with tons of shade and all kinds of lakes that are stocked on a weekly basis. Mostly everything you will catch are hatchery fish but they are fun to catch especially with a fly and bobber. Don't forget bug repellent.

Whitney reservoir has good primitive camping with plenty of shade and the fishing is good. It's 7 miles off of the mirror lake highway on the Evanston side.

I second what these two have said. Pretty country around Whitney and you could easily run into moose and elk if you get out and hike around.

I would HIGHLY recommend Smith and Morehouse.
That place is very quite, wonderful campgrounds, and lots of easy catchable fish. The fish aren't very big but the experience is wonderful. Plenty of places that work well for float tubes.

Away from where? St. George? Blanding? Angle? Motoqua? I guess the good thing with your request is that 4 hours puts you in reach of nearly anywhere in Utah from anywhere. Almost.
What kind of camping? Are you pulling a camp trailer, or looking to tent camp?
What kind of vehicle do you have? 4x4? Subaru? Kia?
I'd say head to the North Creek lakes on the Boulder. The Barkers would be a fantastic place for your wife, your daughter, and you!

I agree with catchinon on ferron res. He didn't mention it sits at about 9600 ft and will be cool in this heat, which is a plus. It is a closer trip from riverton if you travel up ephriam canyon and across skyline drive (very scenic also.)
Another place I think your wife would enjoy is potters ponds , 2 small lakes between cleveland res. and joes valley. post card perfect scenery , good shade, good fishing.
both spots have other nearby fishing Ferron - willow lake, duck fork , Wrigley spring res.
potters ponds - millers flat res, huntington res, Cleveland, electric lake, gooseberry, bouldgers , and benches
Both areas are very good for viewing wildlife , deer and elk, in the early mornings and evenings

It's just a hair over 4 hours from Riverton to Bullfrog (Lake Powell).
The campgrounds have some shade, or you can camp on the beach at Stanton. Your float tube could be a blast kicking around catching SMB and stripers (and walleye, and catfish, and anything else!).
It won't get you out of the heat, but you can always get in the water and swim!

As Ralph said, go to Smith and Morehouse. Your wife will love it and if she is happy you should have a great trip. You should definitely find some willing fish.

I would suggest Ferron Reservoir over Smith and Moorehouse. It is a longer drive but SM gets hit hard and unless you have a small boat shorline access is limited. And camping at SM is very limited this time of year. I lived just at the bottom of the Weber Canyon in Oakley for years and SM is a nice cool place to retreat in the afternoons Ferron is a better place to go on an adventure and escape for the weekend.

I will get better at making posts. I live in Eagle Mountain UT, I have a spring bar tent that is 10x10.
All of these areas are great and most of them I have never even thought of so this is helping me out a lot.

Check out places like Browne Lake, Sheep Creek Lake, and Long Park Reservoir for some great camping spots. Lots of choices for activities including fishing, hiking, coyote hunting, site seeing etc. Flat ground isn't hard to come by at any of those spots.
