I have a set of these lures for big fish:

I briefly practiced with them in the clear water of Flaming Gorge where I could see their action at various speeds and techniques. At the right retrieve speed and then giving it slack line, it turns 180 degrees and suspends while staring atwhat would be large fish just following yet not biting. The theory of that being a challenge prompting a strike makes sense to me. I've had fish follow my lure back to me many times, so next time I'll switch to one of these and see if a smaller fish challenging a larger one prompts a strike even when they're not feeding. I wasn't really fishing it then and just briefly matching the lure weight to a rod that casts it best. It looks and swims just like a fish.
