I agree with your first two statements about anthroplogical global warming and dear Al's interweb. Complete hogwash.
Ethanol fuel, on the other hand, is not friendly with small engines or engines not designed for it. Ethanol being an alcohol is hydrophillic, meaning it attracts water. Alcohol (ethanol) also affects rubber not designed to handle it. I have had numerous small engines get corrosion in the tiny metering orifices in the carb due to the water in the ethanol fuel. This is first hand experience based, not something I got off Al's interweb. I used to design and build unmanned aircraft with small gas engines and all of them did poorly on ethanol gas. Additives that negate the effects of ethanol are the best prevention if no ethanol free fuel is available. Filling up your boat tank full before storing it reduces the volume inside where condensation can collect too. Lots of good preventative maintenance measures one can take to keep your investments going strong.
