Have a friend who just picked up a boat a month ago. Has a rebuilt engine 225 hp. opti. in it with one hr. on it.
The reason for the rebuild. The rebuild mech. said fuel line had rubber stripped due to running ethanol fuel. This rubber then almost totally plugged the fuel filter, causing the motor to run extreme lean at full throttle. Owner had been running non ethanol free fuel.
True cause or not I don't know but the rebuild cost over 10 grand.
2007 boat.
Consumer reports has been recommending using ethanol free in all small engines for years now. I think this is due to it eating up the rubber components. I have seen nothing from them about boat motors however.
