[#0000FF]You got it. All officers...state, county and city...have a certain amount of discretionary power when it comes to issuing citations. A lot of cities that are trying to promote local shopping, tourism or plain good will have instructed their officers to write tickets only for flagrant violations where lives or property may be endangered. Other violators receive written or verbal warnings only.
Not so in Mantua. I have witnessed firsthand the heavy and overbearing attitude of the officer(s). They all but draw their weapons on minor violations...and I have heard them screaming at a young father with a couple of kids...who was exceeding the in-town speed limit by only 2-3 mph. And the guy got a ticket in front of his kids for racing down the street at 28 mph. No warnings.
Almost the same situation when a guy had his young daughter fishing a few feet away from the (unused) launch ramp. The guy got a ticket for his daughter fishing in a restricted area...with no signs prohibiting it.
And I know at least a couple of float tubers who got tickets for beginning to fish too soon after kicking away from the ramp (with no boats or swimmers anywhere around). Again, no cautionary warnings about an unposted restriction. Just a ticket and a lot of attitude...and a ruined trip.
This thread was never about enforcing speed laws on the freeway, but Barney defenders seem to want to divert it in that direction. If ya ain't lived it ya ain't qualified to judge others who have.
