At the very least I think it might be a good idea for back up propulsion. If you are on a small boat / float tube, toon, kayak, etc and have room for the drill and the shaft/prop (design one you can take a a part for storing)... it might come in handy one day if your trolling motor/main motor craps out on you. Or heck even if it is just used for when a storm rolls in and the wind gets nasty. I have yet to switch to a motor mounted tube yet like you have and I consider myself to be in pretty good shape but when the wind picks up real strong from the wrong direction we both know it can be a struggle / heck of a workout to get back to shore with just fins!
Regardless of what kind of shape you are in though there are a lot of advantages to having some "power" on a float tube. Going to get set up later this summer.
