I was mistaken. I took a closer look at the rod today and the reel is part of it. Might need to donate this outfit to someone else. Just picked the kid up a new 4' rod for his 6th birthday. Let's see if he has better control with this one. I'll hold onto the small one until I'm sure he can 100% handle the one that's taller than he is.
