White fish can readily be caught right on the rock pile, but your offering has to be right on the bottom (they are sucking cisco eggs off of the rocks). If you are more than an inch or so off of the bottom you won't catch them.
Some macks and cutts are caught right on the rock pile, but I have had better luck moving a little deeper.
