There are SOOOOO many opportunities to cite way more than 7 people per day that they don't need to resort to writing such low yield tickets. Simple math.......higher speeds result in higher citations. Also, where highway 89 goes through Mantua city limits the local police can enforce and collect revenue, it's not just the exclusive domain of the UHP.
Those two officers are busy day and night stopping people.....probably at least 5-6 per hour, so they are just like most officers almost anywhere.....letting far more people go with a warning than actually citing them.
This isn't meant as a personal attack and I feel no ill will toward anyone who feels bent by the mantua police, but I think it's ironic that so many on this forum throw out all kinds of higher morality and judgement about someone keeping over their limit, or trespassing, or fishing without a license, but they seem to think that it is perfectly acceptable to break the law and speed or run a stop sign, etc. Keeping too many fish or fishing without a license is wrong, but it doesn't put anyone else's life in jeopardy, but speeding and breaking even minor traffic laws does put others at risk. It's a proven statistic. If our DWR officers were this zealous we would all be singing their praises, so what's the difference?
Bottom line is that there is no speed trap in Mantua and those that are bent by these two officers are typically those that feel they should be able to break the law a little and be entitled to get away with it. People know right from wrong and fully know the risk when they break the law, so I don't feel sorry for anyone who gets caught. I've had tickets too and though I was mad about it I had no one to blame but myself and knew it.
It's all minor crap anyway, but if Mantua makes money enforcing the law then I support them. The only complaint that would have validity would be if the two officers are treating people like crap with no provocation, but I tend to think that people don't like to be questioned by anyone and that is precisely what police officers do when they interact with the public, so therefor people claim they are treated like crap by them when in reality it is probably more likely to be the other way around.
I'm as guilty as the next guy when it comes to speeding, so you're hearing from the guilty here, but at least I accept responsibility for my own actions and don't feel like I'm entitled to any exceptions
