Fish Finder
#29
"A weapon is only as powerful as the operator."

I do need to improve my skills. If one of my superpowers was an intuitive feel for the bite and knowing the exact moment to set the hook, then the benefits of the fish finder would be less.

If I fish enough, I could gain that eventually by experience. But, I cherish the rare moments that I have a little time to devote to fishing and it's much more enjoyable by rapidly making progress AND catching fish.

I know. I fished many times wondering ... wondering if fish saw my presentation and rejected it and I should change the lure or if they are just about to come and I should stay fishing or move ... ad infinitum. I've tried guessing game hook sets and wondered where's the fish.

But, I had enough of that. Given enough time, experience would s-l-o-w-l-y build. But, I decided to accelerate learning and skill improvements.

Lots of seminars from champion fishermen produced quick results with filling a photo album with big fish I caught. Lots of good equipment also made a big difference.

The fancy fish finder removed a lot of guessing, but best of all it greatly accelerated my knowing what's happening which aids development of skill in less time. Even reading a sonar is a skill of interpretation. Looking at a lot of models on display and in simulation modes was intimidating since I wasn't really visualizing it well. The combination with the camera was the one I chose because the camera could take away the guessing for quickly learning to convert the abstract art of color blobs into what's there.

"Do you watch your rod tip/spring bobber and line. I would think you do. However as a tip elevate the sonar/flasher display so you can view the rod tip and display together one infront of the other."

Great tip! Thanks! I'll do that. It fits with having everything right there on the screen. But, I think of looking for line slack or the slightest line movement as looking at the line where it enters the surface of the water, so shouldn't I have the rod tip low and close with the monitor just behind it to best see all at once?
