Frogs make awesome bait. In California we cannot use live bait in freshwater unless they are nightcrawlers or crickets........But you should see how the Stripers and Catfish go for some of the feeder goldfish.
I went on an expedition with one of the local Fish and Wildlife biologists. We were doing a survey to see how big the Catfish were in the Aquaduct. We were using live goldfish that were nearly 5 inches long.
The Catfish were coming up at 20 to 30lbs. Nightcrawlers would only yeald the 10 to 15lb class fish. We also let down a few Pinkies and they bumped back up to 40lbs. Then the live mice would yield about the same as the pinkies.
These were all catch and release just like we do with our Bass but they were fun to stretch some line with. [cool]
