You will do ok with the smaller reel. Heavy artillary is not the key to success in the salty world or otherwise. Learning how to use what have is the key. Some boats that I have been on get discouraged with my Big Game abilities when we are targeting 40 to 50lb fish and I have a 15lb set up. Yellowtail is the species and people are getting busted off with 50lb test. I end up with 5 fish on the deck with my 15lb set up before the rest have the 1st fish.
I use the same setup for Wahoo and Rooster fish in Mexico.
You can do so much more with the medium setup. You can always do your undershot with some good braided line and just topshot with your final size. The reel you chose still only has a 15lb drag. You don't need more than that anyways. That is just enough drag to train a fish as to "Who's your Daddy?" type of technique.
I enjoy getting bigger fish on lighter tackle. There are a few select species that require getting them in quick to avoid the lactic acid build up. That is when you need to go hard core and bring out the big guns.[crazy]
